My Top 3 weekly artists - Naru, Sister's Barbershop & 10cm

I've become a huge fan of Last.fm - ever since last summer I've been "scrobbling" every single track I listen to while being on the computer. I listen to a lot of random songs that I actually don't like much BUT my Last.fm chart gives, though, a really good overall image of the music I like to listen to.

Last week my top weekly artists were:
나루 (Naru) (17 plays), 언니네 이발관 (Sister's Barbershop) (15 plays) & 10cm (15 plays).

I already presented a few songs from 10cm yesterday so today I'll focus on Naru and Sister's Barbershop!

For the last three years, I've been a HUGE fan of Naru, who is an artist in Happy Robot Records. In 2008, I read an interview of him in KoME World. I was really interested in his music, so, I listened to a few previews from his first album. I was surprised to find out that his sound was fascinating - simple rock created with synth, guitar and drums + Naru's rugged voice - it seemed very different from the KPOP I had always listened to before. I'd say Naru was one of the first Korean indie artists that blew my mind away - but it took me more than two years to hear full versions of his songs. I always listened to the previews and loved those 30-second snippets but I never got the chance to buy/hear the album in its fullest.

Luckily, in summer 2010, Naru came back with his 2nd album. I was really surprised of his comeback and also extremely thrilled to FINALLY hear all his songs (I was able to purchase his 1st album, too!). I might say that Naru changed a bit his style for the 2nd album; it's more rock-meets-electronica-like, but I like the result a lot.

Here's the title song of his 2nd album - 키 (Height). It's definitely my favorite song from him - it's kind of like Owl City, but without the overflow of sugary melodies, Naru has a more rock sound.  The MV is actually really inspirational and, if I'm not wrong, a friend of Naru helped him with the creation of the MV.

The second recommendation for the day is 언니네 이발관, which can be translated into "Sister's Barbershop". They have been in the Korean indie scene ever since 1994 but their music is timeless indie rock and works even today; no wonder why they have many fans in Korea. The real trademarks of Sister's Barbershop are the catchy instrumentals and meaningful lyrics + the somewhat dreary vocal (I see it as a positive thing, haha). They have released numerous albums, all of which are real masterpieces - but my favorite among them is definitely 꿈의 팝송 (The Dream Pop Song / The Dream's Pop Song?) because this album includes my ultimate favorite song of theirs: 헤븐 (단 한번의 사랑).

I don't know why exactly I fell for this song released in 2004. Maybe it is thanks to one of the catchiest instrumentals I've ever heard - the lyrics are a cherry on top. For some reason this song always makes me feel joyous - singing along to it only emphasizes my good feeling.

And just because I've been lately addicted to this another song by Sister's Barbershop, I'll post it too. It's also one of my "feel good" songs that make me feel better in all kinds of situations.
