[ History ] :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Hound [ Personality ] :
Makoto starts out as an anti-social jerk. While this doesn’t change much through the series, he does manage to actually make some friends and come to realizations he probably wouldn’t have otherwise. For one, he actually grows to like other people, going so far as to actually help them out when they need it. Secondly, while he’s still pretty awkward and grumpy at the end of the series, he does manage to overcome the demons he was carrying at the start of the show to become a better person. (And by better, I mean he grows into some morals and manages to acquire some people skills. Other than that, he’s still Mr. Angry pants.)
At the start of the series, Makoto tells Taro and Masayuki that he ‘isn’t afraid of killing people’. See, he had an accident where he was younger, and apparently lacks morals because of it. As such, he doesn’t see killing another human as wrong, and would do it without a second thought. This is disproved throughout the series, mainly when he goes to stab his mother and doesn’t. Instead he stabs the floor, and then runs off sobbing. So, he clearly does have a conscious, even if he isn’t afraid to threaten and intimidate. Another notable thing is he doesn’t physically harm anyone during the course of the series. He threatens to, and at one point he grabs Masayuki by his shirt collar and hangs him over the stairs, but he doesn’t actually cause anyone physical harm.
While he doesn’t really express himself well, he does warm up to people. Yes, he’ll call his friends jerks, dumbasses, and nuisances, but he’ll stand up for those he hangs around with, and he’ll help them out when they need it. He even seems to enjoy their company. Not that he shows it well, of course. You can tell because with Taro and Masayuki, he helps them out. He goes with Taro when he needs to apologize to the head Sake brewer and he scares off some bullies for Masayuki. This shows he does care about them to some extent, because he wouldn’t do those things for other people.
Makoto’s not exactly quiet, but he’s not outgoing either. He speaks when he has to, or when he has something to say but not much otherwise. He expresses himself more with his body language. He’ll often glower, and glare instead of actually complaining, or shove his hands in his pockets and walk away when he doesn’t care. Though he’ll gladly yell and call people names if he’s offended or if touchy subjects are brought up. Touchy subjects include but are not limited to: His family, his goals, his attitude, anything that can be considered an insult, people showing that they care, people asking personal questions…and the list goes on.
Makoto’s past haunts him. He witnessed his father killing himself, and with the pressure of becoming head of the Ogami sect, he thinks about it nearly everyday. Which is his drive through the series, and the reason he searches for the answers he doesn’t have: Why did his father kill himself? Was it connected to Taro’s kidnapping? Ect. Ect. This has a big impact on him as a character, because it’s one of the reasons he disconnects himself from others so much. The pressure to become head of the sect, when he loathes it, puts a wall between him and his grandmother. (That relationship is dysfunctional to the max, anyway.) His search for answers often makes him short tempered and distrustful of people who might know things. Because as he sees it: If they don’t give him the answers he’s looking for, obviously they’re hiding something.
In addition to these things, Makoto has a lot of inner rage. At his mother, at his grandmother, and at anyone else he can blame for his fathers death. When he gets upset he’ll threaten to kill or beat up the people he’s upset with, or he’ll just yell and storm off to sulk. He’s big on the whole sulky bit. Also, he gets angry a lot, and over really stupid things sometimes.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
--Makoto can astral travel/astral project himself. Usually he does this by playing the guitar, but at the point where I’m taking him from, he can control it at will. However, it seems he can only do it in Suiten and the mountains surrounding that area, so he won’t be able to do this in Vatheon.
--His attitude is a major falling point for him, because he’s so angry all the time. This will put a wall between him and others, so.
--He aren’t afraid of anything.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
--Doesn’t smile. Well, not usually. The two times you actually do see him smile, they’re really awkward.
--His default expression is grumpy frowny face.
--He has family and abandonment issues.
[ Sample ] :
The hell is this? [It was a redundant question, but one he felt the need to ask. After all, he didn’t know where he was. It may be a part of the Unseen world, but it seemed unlikely. Besides, It didn’t feel like soul traveling. No, it felt like he was wide awake and in the real world--Which made no sense, really, considering he was soaking wet in a place he’d never seen before.
A quick glance around and he sighs, stuffing his hands in his pocket as he moves away from where he’d awoken. In his head, he counts the things that didn’t make sense: Wet clothes, Underwater city, a small blue spirit following him around…]
Dammit, none of this adds up. I was just--Tch. [He shoves that thought away, and just shakes his head.] I guess this mean I’m stuck here, huh.
