I really didn't expect MuteMath to live up to the energy, fun and fascination that they held for me the last time I saw them. But they DID, oh yes, they really did.
Instead of walking on stage, they entered through a door at the back of the floor room, with lights (sort of like Christmas lights) swaying on poles above their heads, and they wove their way through the crowd to the stage. Fittingly, since they're from Louisiana, it reminded me of a small Mardi Gras parade.
Their sound is always perfect, if unusual. Paul's voice is angelic, and the rest of the guys are amazing at what they do, which is unlike any band I've ever seen. They are FUN to see because there's so much going on and they look like they're having so much fun. I really enjoyed seeing them again, and I'm so glad that
jaeyn went with me.
Here are some very lousy pictures I took with my phone...not quality pics, but I was sitting in the balcony, I was using a phone I still haven't conquered, and I do jiggle a bit while dancing. I just want them to preserve the memory of a really fun night.
This is Paul, standing out on a projected sliding thing that was something unusual...at first it just bridged the gap between the stage and the crowd, but later, as you will see, it extended and went out into the crowd. Wow.
Another of Paul on the bridge (for lack of a better term), but you can see the band a little better in this one:
Another...Paul is such a showman:
Another, but this time the lead guitar guy is standing on the keyboards:
This is the drummer, with drums, out on the extension bridge, playing his brains out, in the middle of the crowd. I know it's not a great picture, but you can get the idea and understand how cool it was:
This was WAY cool! I looked away for a second and when I looked back, there was this air bed thing with lights on it out in the crowd, being held up by the crowd, and then Paul jumped on it, and they moved him around the room, and finally back to the stage. Unbelievable. And so much fun to see!
One more of Paul on the bridge, but look at the stage...does it look a little more white to you?
This is the reason it looks white:
Near the end of the show, from the bottom of both sides of the stage, this stuff that looked like white or pale pink flower petals was shot up into the air! And it was, I believe, the prettiest thing I've ever seen at a concert. It floated all around for ages:
And Paul had to blow it off the keyboards when he came back to play. Just gorgeous...it makes me smile just thinking about it again.
And yes, my icon is Paul doing a headstand on his keyboards. He did that last night twice. Who could not love this band for the joy they obviously have in playing? Oh, and they all went out into the crowd after the show to hug and shake hands. Really a wonderful night. :)
