Whoooohoooo, we have all five Dog Mansions built!! :)
We still have things to finish on the last three:
Redheads - put in center post, finish roof, make food bowl shelves
Kalija & Patty - finish sides, make food bowl shelves
Sylvia & Petey - finish sides, make food bowl shelves
But the main buildings are all done! I said I wanted them before it got cold, and while it was pretty chilly last night, we accomplished what we set out to do. I'm SO proud of us and of the buildings. Deryl asked me last night if the Mansions were built from something else we had seen or if we thought it all up ourselves, and I proudly answered that it was my idea and we elaborated on it from there and it was all our idea, our plan, our execution of the plan.
So, here are pics of the last house, the house of Sylvia and Petey...
Sometime after we left the pen last night, the toy basket was completely emptied, and the toys were on one side of the house while the basket (really a plastic flower pot) was on the other side. Silly dogs. :) Oh, and the thing on the post in front of the house? That's the heat lamp, which may be moved into the house if I think there's room for it to be safe. The metal on top of the lamp is to keep rain off...in summer, it's not a problem because I switch to energy saver bulbs but when the heat lamps are there, one drop of rain would break the bulb because they're so hot.
The right side:
The left side (keep in mind that we haven't finished the sides...still have to do the triangular pieces):
The insides...I put hay in the house and wheat straw in front of it because there was a little bit of a hole there, and I thought it would be more comfy anyway. Sure enough, both dogs are now snoozing in...the wheat straw! Silly dogs. :)
I tried today to get some pictures of Sylvia and Petey, but they were on the move, so every single one I took came out blurry. I still have to post two of them because, blurriness and all, they're too cute.
This one is Sylvia and Petey, nose to nose. Petey is sort of in front of Sylvia, but I just thought they were so sweet together:
And this is so typical of my Petey...he's always coming right up to me and kissing me, and he didn't really understand that the camera was in the way of the kissing till he got up this close:
I was worried last night that Sylvia might not get in the house because she's just as shy and scary as Patty, and they were a bit freaked out by our being in their pen all day. Petey came to check things out several times during the day, but Sylvia stayed as far from the proceedings as she could. They both always go to the very back of their pen when anyone else is here, so I moved their old houses back there. Today I moved them back and put them next to the new house (after I took the photos), just like I did Kalija and Patty's old houses. And sure enough, Sylvia came on and snuggled there in the new area, so I'm going to wait till they're comfortable with their new area and unafraid of the new house and then I think I'll move the old houses back to the back of the pen again. I worry about their being back there if it's cold or rainy when someone else is here, so I think this is a good solution to that...if their old houses are there, they will have shelter there as well as the main house.
Three houses in three weeks...needless to say, I'm a bit tired. :) But very happy to have them all almost finished! :)
