I know exactly how you feel. I remember my elementary school being integrated, and also what a big deal it was when we got a black principal. To have come so far in my lifetime...I have no words.
I cried when they declared Obama the winner. It was the first time that I've ever cried tears of joy, because bleak as things have been in this country, this man brought a glimmer of hope. And that's just what we all need. ;)
I can hardly comprehend it. It feels like a dream come true. It's not an answer in itself... true, it's only a beginning. There's far to go. But it's a start we haven't had before, hadn't seen, hadn't known. It's like Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech wasn't just wishful idealism... it wasn't just words. It is here. It is come. It is made flesh and blood. His dream is REAL.
Hardly 50 years since the civil right movement was at its height. Hardly any time at all, really, and look what happened already.
I'm so amazed. I'm so overcome by the beauty of it.
