My last job

Feb 02, 2007 21:53

Well, I went by my old job to show off my wedding pictures, but most of the people I worked with were already gone for the day and the ones that was there I didn't really know. I used to work in a hospital cafeteria as a dishwasher for ten long years.

The first few years weren't bad. My old boss was great and we would do almost anything for the man. It was great, Mr. F did most of the scheduling, the inventory and really talked to you. He was the one in charge and if you needed anything, you went to him. When I left, the so-called manager managed the other managers. The last I heard, there was at least 6 'supervisors', not including the head cook and other office managers. 6! When I started, there was Mr. F, the head cook, a supervisor over the patient line and two-three ladies who made up the patient meues.

There are 6 people in charge of about 40 or so people. That, in my opinon, is overkill. Where are they getting the money for all these managers? Screwing the workers, that's how. After I left, they put a freeze on saliries, so no more raises. Also, when I left, I was making $8.01 an hour. I was there for 10 years and freaking high-school kids who worked more then 90 days as a hostess was making more then me.

Well, I got the last laugh. After I left, they went though at least 15 dishwashers. I quit on April 1st. They pay they're new-hire dishwashers $6.50 an hour for 13 hours a day. 13!! No wonder they can't keep anyone. And that's not even factoring in the fact that they treat people like shit.

It's getting late. I'll go into more detail tomorrow.
