Summary: Nanao pays Retsu a visit.
She was annoyed.
A part of her had wanted to pull out her hair, yet another to scream at the top of her lungs. Nanao though did neither. Instead she continued to work with that determined look on her face, ignoring the fact that once again, he was late handing in his papers.
No, she wasn’t surprised, not in the least, but that didn’t mean that they weren’t important. So caught up in her own world, that she wasn’t quite paying attention to what it was she was doing, pacing back and forth, shoving files in folders and folders into cabinets. Yet as she moved, she tripped, her heeled foot swinging to the side, wrenching her ankle.
Not one to swear, Nanao bit at her lip, mumbling about fashion, standards and stupidity of men, before hobbling off. She knew it wasn’t broken, but still, she wanted Unohana Retsu to look at it.
And it gave her an excuse to get out of the office.
Surprisingly, or not, the afternoon was slow. Retsu went through her usual routine, not actually doing too much today, given how things were running. Pen scrawled over paper, her neat hand-writing having gone sloppy as the day progressed.
It was weird how being a doctor could do that, as with medical things, her chicken-scratch called writing could barely be read, yet her actual hand-writing was fluid and graceful.
It was Friday though, and as Retsu stretched, she gave a soft smile, for the weekend loomed like a colourful rainbow on the horizon.
Nanao had managed to make it to the other building, not limping too much. Although she knew that had she called the doctor she would have come, Nanao was not willing to do such a thing. Call it stubborn pride, or perhaps the fact that she didn’t need her boss to come in and see Unohana there looking her over.
With luck, he would leave early, allowing Nanao to limp home unnoticed. With a word of greeting to Isane, Nanao politely knocked on the Doctor’s door and waited.
Day-dreaming, perhaps. Retsu wouldn’t admit to that. Her scribbling text had reverted to simply scribbles, though she was no artist. The knock caught her unaware for a few moments. She knew that no one was supposed to be in this afternoon for anything, and an emergency would have had her called down. Eyebrow rising ever so, that soft yet authoritative voice called a, “Come in.”
Nanao gave a small cough. More out of her own embarrassment than anything else. Although Unohana was a kind woman, and Nanao respected her, she was still a woman to be wary of.
A slight flush, as Nanao gave a bow. “Sorry to bother you, Unohana-san, but I think I sprained my ankle and was wondering if I could get something for it.
Retsu was a bit startled to see Nanao, as usually she showed up for her scheduled appointments, and always made sure to phone ahead. A motion of her head was made, that soft smile on her face, as she spoke a word of greeting to the other woman, before listening to her speak.
Retsu kept her face mild, though she was still surprised. Nanao was usually one who was always careful with everything that she did, and the older woman wondered how exactly Nanao had managed to do that.
“Come, have a seat then, and allow me to look it over.” Retsu made a motion with her head toward the table in the corner, and arose herself from behind her desk.
