Malice In Wonderland - Part 3 + Alternative Ending
He watched her stired in front of him. Her long, golden locks shining under the moonlight, wiping her tears away with the back of her hands.
He held his breath, his heartbeat quickening its pace. Excitement rushed through him at the thought of a good fight.
Would she stand up? Was she on to him?
He listened carefully but noticed no change in her heartbeat. Instead she continued to stay like this. Wallowing…
It was almost pathetic and Sylar closed his eyes exhaling, trying to contain his frustration.
Even after everything Jessica had done, even while having Micah depending on her, if that were him, he would never have acted like her.
He would never find himself so weak.
Guilt, regret, remorse had no place in his conscience or his life. Those three were three words missing altogether from his vocabulary.
He needed nothing, he needed no one to help him stand on his own. He did whatever he did and never looked back, he never thought twice.
He acted on his instincts and those unlike some people had never betrayed him.
He thought Jessica was like that. And he was right, she was. But then again, Niki wasn’t. So if he had to choose to rid himself of one of the two, it would be Niki.
Too bad Niki and Jessica were more or less inseparable. Kind of an ironic word to use for a split personality Sylar thought and chuckled
He watched Niki grow stiff in front of him. She was frozen. She didn’t dare look behind her though and that made him chuckle even more. This was going to be fun.
He knew that once Niki was cornered Jessica would emerge in all her glory. Proud, defiant with her subconscious deathwish.
Oh, yes it was going to be fun and he was going to take his time with this one. Or should he say with those two?
~ * ~ * ~ *
Niki shifted uncomfortably. The sound reaching her ears an eerie laugh. A malicious chuckle.
She didn’t know what to think. All she knew was that she was alone. She should be alone.
No one was supposed to be there with her at that time or at that place.
All she needed was some time with herself.
Some time to get some perspective.
To reflect, to come to terms with what she had done, what she had become.
Come to terms with who she was..
Because, she knew she had changed. She wasn’t like she used to be anymore.
Now she knew what she had done. She no longer kept her eyes closed to reality, to what happened.
Even if she were oblivious, she knew now.
There was no denying this. No innocence.
And it was her punishment, but still not punishment enough.
Maybe that was what Jessica was there for. Maybe that was why Jessica was still alive. Maybe she was keeping her alive.
Keeping her around to punish herself again and again.
Then again maybe in a twisted sort of way she needed Jessica.
She needed someone to keep her together, to help her not flinch at the sight of the blood, the guts turned upside down, the suffering.
Especially if she was the cause for it one way or the other.
She brought her hands to her face, cupping it trying to think clearly but she couldn’t.
Her mind was a maze and she couldn’t find her way in it. At least Niki couldn’t .
Maybe Jessica would do better.
And she prayed for her to emerge. Any minute now because the chills she was getting, screamed danger and imminent fight.

He stood up slowly, observing her. She wasn’t fooling him anymore. Her heartbeat was getting faster. He wondered if it was the beginning of her much anticipated transformation.
It would be more fun with Jessica but he decided it was too soon and he had time.
He was standing right beside her now, his hand merely inches from her shoulder. He could almost touch her.
Still, her posture didn’t change, she didn’t flinch. Her face emotionless, her eyes looking straight ahead.
She didn’t turn to look at him but Sylar knew that she could see him from the corner of her eye.
He smirked as he purred “Niki, we meet again at last” touching her shoulder.
It was then that she moved, removing his hand from her shoulder.
”Yeah, lucky me, I guess” she simply said as she stood up too.
”Oh, no! The pleasure will be all mine” he told her arching his eyebrows, knowing she was more shaken up than she let show.
She cast a glance his way, assessing him from top to bottom but Sylar didn’t blink under her scrutiny.
She should know then that she didn’t stand a chance.
He suddenly felt the need to tease her, toy with her, even though his mother always told him not to play with his “food”.
”See anything you like?”
”Not particularly. I’ve done better” was her defiant response and it already made him hot, excited.
It almost felt like Jessica even though he knew it was Niki.
”Oh, indeed you have, I’m very disappointed in you Jessica” he challenged her. Would calling out her name cause her to take over?
He scowled as he saw anger on the blonde woman’s face.
”Don’t call me that! Ever! My name is Niki!” she shouted waving at finger at him.
”Oh, then. Will Jessica come out and play?” he pouted mimicking the voice of a ten-year-old. He then proceeded to use his telekinesis.
One sharp move of his hand and Niki was on the floor again, her body aching from the abrupt contact with the hard floor.
”And that was for pointing you finger at me”
Out of breath, she quickly got up to her feet and her reply was harsh.
”Right. I should have known better than point my finger at crazy people”
Did she really think she was insulting him?
”It takes one to know one, right Jessica?”
Her cheeks flashed red as she came forward to hit him with her near-iron fist. ”I told you my name is Jessica”
He foresaw it and used telekinesis to push her hand aside.
”Yeah, you told me, but Jessica is so much more than you” he scolded her while he used his telekinetically enhanced hand to grab her by the throat and held her high.
Jessica is evil. She should be destroyed. I’m nothing like Jessica” she retorted.
Sylar tightened is grip around her neck. He could feel her gasping for air, it was getting harder and harder for her to breathe.
She was almost out of consciousness but he knew she was going to last a little longer.
But it felt wrong; it felt as if she had given up already.
She wasn’t trying to kick him or hit him.
Jessica would never give up that easily. She would make it interesting, she would make him work for it.
”Jessica might be evil but it seems that she is the best of you two. Just ask yourself, would she act like this? Would she accept her fate like that? You haven’t even tried to kick me. Why is that?” he complained.
Her only reaction was blinking once and that was it.
”What good would it do me? We both know you are stronger. And besides the world would be a safer place without me in it”
Every word coming out of her mouth infuriated him. Was she for real? She was Niki Sanders for God’s sake, she was a fierce animal.
He was told that but he also knew it in his gut.
He had to lure Jessica out, but instead of making her angry, she was getting to him.
”And what about me? Will the world be a better place with me in it? Me with your power?”
She only sighed as she said ”Well, I’ll be dead, wont I? So I wont be around to see that”
She was faking calmness Sylar was sure of it. It was time to push her further.
”You don’t seem to be grasping the gravity of the situation. You see, I’m going to kill you, so you are right about that, but I am not going to stop there” he said and smiled when her saw her face contort into a grimace, slowly catching on.
”Your precious boy, Micah, I’m going to kill him too and take his power.
His pretty little skull sliced open, blood and brain matter everywhere.
But I am not going to even stop there.
You see, I think I’m going to slice him up for good just for the fun of it.
Since his mother isn’t cooperating and all. Not being any fun at all”
”No” Niki only whispered ”No!” pleading to his humanity and with those pretty blue eyes if he still had any left he’d probably indulge her and spare the little bugger.
”No! Just no? And you call yourself a mother?”
Her heart was hammering in her chest beating like crazy, she started squirming under his touch but it wasn’t till the look in her eyes changed that Sylar knew she was finally there.
A kick in his groin and a hard fist in his face took him by surprise and letting go of her he found himself flat on the floor.
”We don’t appreciate your threats against our son” Jessica said standing akimbo.
He chuckled amused, wiping the drop of blood from his torn lip with his thumb.
”Oh welcome home Jessica. I’ve been waiting for you, I was beginning to worry”
She chuckled too as she made her way to him and her foot met with his body twice.
”I got Sylar worried? I’m really flattered. I might have to show you just how much” she started right about to kick him again but Sylar sent her flying away from him.
”It only works the first time, sweetheart” he said rising to his feet again.
He was amazed at how quickly she recovered, her hair framing wildly her face and her eyes glowing as is there was fire beneath them.
”Don’t call me sweetheart, you haven’t earned it” she said running closer to him but Sylar telekinetically halted her.
It was with effort that he managed to though. Her super-human strength provided major physical resistance against his force.
In a matter of seconds she was free of his invisible grip and next to him punching him repeatedly.
”Only the first time, huh? Well, likewise!” she smirked.
He retaliated by blocking her last blow and punching her too.
”That’s more like it. That’s the Jessica I know, the one I met that night, remember?”
”I do she simply said. ”I only regret I didn’t finish you off that night. I wish Hiro had killed you for good”
”Now, now” he chided ”If he had, we wouldn’t be here now having such a great time, would we?” he answered her and telekinetically threw her off.
”Is that your idea of a good time? You are sick” she told him behind gritted teeth.
”Oh come on. Don’t tell me that it doesn’t excite you. The power, the rush, the pain, the burning…Don’t lie to me” Sylar finally overpowered her, approaching her, grabbing her by the throat again.
”You know I wasn’t lying before. You could be by my side. Imagine what we could do together. “ he whispered in her ear.
She recoiled from the touch of his breath against her skin.
”You are crazy, but then again I already knew that. But me being your sidekick. It’s not just crazy it’s ludicrous.” she kicked him but this time he knew it.
He was prepared for her. So he just endured it. It was after all nothing compared to what was going to happen to her.
He squeezed her throat harder.
Tighter and already she was barely able to talk making muffled noises, the light almost fading completely from her eyes.
It reminded him of a certain small, brown-haired girl in the same position. Almost broken, rendered mute by him but she was not broken in the end.
Instead she had escaped at the most unexpected of moments.
She was the only one to ever have gotten away.
But not this one.
Jessica was not going to get away. She had no way to kill herself before she would get to her.
”Too bad then” he stated ”I had high hopes for us” and with that he lowered his face into hers and kissed her roughly in the mouth. His tongue exploring her mouth, its taste its scent, suffocating her more.
When he stopped, he paused to take a breath and looked at her mercilessly though his words suggested otherwise.
”Sorry darling. Nothing personal. I’m just better, so you see, it’s just the evolutionary imperative!”
His fingers already tracing the perfect line across her forehead, he just watched as blood started trickling down her face….

ALTERNATIVE ENDING
With Jessica’s lifeless body on the concrete, the top of her skull removed almost surgically accurately, Sylar found himself sitting on the same cold surface, a smile on his face.
He clenched his fists in front of his face and felt the strength overwhelming him. He almost felt invincible.
Too bad it had to be that way.
It had been fun though, and regretting or looking back wasn’t in his nature.
Now he could finally put his plans into action. Nothing and no one could stand in his way.
It felt so easy it was almost dull. But not quite.
Destroyning things always held a certain fascination.
Looking around and down from the terrace he saw the skyscrapers, the church, the school. People walking outside ignorant, unsuspecting.
The world around him , it was all his. Who said gloating was useless?
It was with annoyance that he noticed a figure not too far from him.
He turned to take a good look and what he saw made his jaw drop.
He immediately stood up.
”Crap” was all he could muster.
It was his voice he heard, it was his mouth turning into a sickening smile, it was his face, his body.
”What? Don’t tell me you are not happy to see me.”
”Who are you? What is this?” he asked mystified even though an idea was already beginning to form in his head.
”I’m you of course. Well, not exactly you, I’m not Gabriel, if that is what you are afraid of. Because let’s face it that nerd would never look as cool as me.
But then again, I guess it’s safe to say that I’m closer to him than I am to you. You, see you are pure evil”
”So what are you then? My ‘Jessica’?”
The other Sylar sniggered.
”Oh no! It seems that you are the Jessica in this analogy.
I’m your Niki.
And you are never getting rid of me. It’s a ‘till death do us part’ kind of deal and neither one of us wants to see that happening any time soon, right?”
