There may, if she is lucky, come a time in a young lawyer's life, when, facing unemployment in the near future, she gets to go do the kind of thing that some of us pictured ourselves doing when we went to law school in the bloody first place.

Dear Obama Legal Observer Volunteer:
Thank you for registering for the Obama Voter Protection Program! You have been assigned to Michigan. Thank you for signing up to work in the polls on Election Day, November 4, 2008. Your presence in our targeted precincts is critical to ensuring that everyone who is eligible to cast a vote in Michigan is able to cast a vote and have that vote counted.

Some of you may be aware that the Michigan Republican party is trying to keep people who have had their homes foreclosed on off the voter rolls. There is more than a little poetic justice in an out-of-work real estate attorney helping them get back on.
Plus my aunt and uncle who I'm close to live in Grand Rapids. I get to see them twice a year if I'm lucky, and I've never been to their house.
The only thing I'll miss is getting to vote in the acutal voting booth. Absentee ballots just aren't the same, but it'll do.
