There's nothing quite like the experience of being woken up at 6:45 am to "Pump up the jam" being broadcast over a P.A. system, followed by an off-key rendition of "O Canada" and of course "The Star Spangled Banner."
My boyfriend lives a block off the Chippewa strip, and I am accustomed to loud music, people yelling "woo," car horns and the like. WHEN IT'S DARK OUT. Hearing the terrible terrible music at dawn made me feel like the world had turned on its head. What really happened is that a marathon was beginning. I have to assume that whoever organized it doesn't think anyone lives downtown at all. P.A. SYSTEM!! SIX F-ING THIRTY IN THE MORNING! ON A SUNDAY! I may sound like I'm whining, but we're talking louder than D'Arcy McGees here. Is that really necessary?
I had visions of creeping downstairs in my pajamas with a giant pair of scissors, making a few well-placed snips in electrical cords, and going back to bed. Luckily they quieted the F down just after 7 -- I say luckily because I don't actually have a giant pair of scissors so I'm not sure what I would have done.
