"I know how you feel"

Ugh this drives me up the wall. Fine you've acknowledge how I felt using a cheap empathic ploy that not only makes you believe that we're experiencing the same thing but it also paves the way for you to talk about your problems and issues.

It's not like I'm against people bonding over bad experiences or that I feel like I'm the only one who goes through bad stituations, however I do think that this line has a way of moving the attention away from the person with the issue to the person who is supposed to listen but has now been allowed to dictate how the conversation is going
