Very scary incident with my sleep apnoea yesterday arvo. Was having my usual arvo nap before beginning the nights metal work (booking/promoting the club, answering emails for the record label, promoting the bands etc) when I woke up suddenly to the sound of my own wretched gasping. I was in full panic with black spots in my vision growing quicker and quicker whilst the air was not forthcoming. Rational thought clicked in, I fought to calm my frenzied mind and I slowly let air into my desperate lungs and slowly my head stopped spinning and through teared vision the black spots dissipated.
After lying there panting for a minute I eventually sat on the edge of my bed and took another minute or two to slowly breathe through a throat that felt like it was on fire. Eventually got into a scaldingly hot shower and life turned a little bit back to normal, but with a lesson learned and a clear warning received.
Booking in to see my GP asap for a referral to a sleep clinic and I'm putting some money aside for the eventual purchase of a CPAP machine. I know many people with these machines and I look forward to the quality of life that comes with them.
