I Got 40 Acres of Regret To See

I wish I'd come up with that line (the musician that did, however, was an English major. See also Patti Smith and Lou Reed. Makes me happy).

Evidently my Yahoo homepage has begun wishing me a happy birthday. And yes, I use Yahoo for a homepage. It's handy for storing bookmarks and feeding me weather, news & cartoons. I also have two Dells running Windows OSs. I suppose only my refusal to run Internet Explorer as a browser saves me from being completely computer uncool (it's an ongoing personal war I have...which do I hate worse, Windows innumerable flaws, or the silly self-importance of the Mac world? In a result that should surprise no one that knows me, flawed wins out over self-important. Fuck you, ego!!). Anyway that's really annoying. I wonder if Facebook and Myspace are already alerting my sundry 'friends'? Why, with internet culture being as obsessed with up-to-the-minute-ness as it is, should these things be pushed so early? The internet is about the only place in the country nice enough to wait for Christmas to dress itself in Christmasy shite. Ah, well.

Why did I have to wait till they were gone to fall in love with Sleater-Kinney and Guided By Voices? They're hardly overly obscure. I must have considered buying their records a couple dozen times before I actually did. Stupid me.
While we're at it, why not wish I'd been born 5 years earlier and caught Slint and Pavement back in the day (I'm not going to pretend that I, at 12-16 and living in North Dakota, should've been into them back then...that seems more unlikely than something really unlikely [too addled to derive a decent simile...sorry]).

And I think I will, in fact, leave this update as the series of rants that it is. My life shall remain in a shroud of mystery from whence it may never be torn!! Mhuahaha!!

Seriously, that band I quoted is awesome. That song, "Pumpkin Farmer," is like a vaguely countrified version of what Damien Rice tries to do, but always fails by coming off too plasticly unnatural (I like Rice, but only kind of-sort of). It'll be in my winter mix, when I get around to posting that (probably shortly).
