The Iron Patriot (the armor with all the patriotic details) is supposedly not Rhodey, as it's not him in the comics. This is the Iron Patriot in the comics, sooooooo, INTRIGUING.
Yeah, I know about the Iron Patriot from the comics, but since Spiderman and Norman Osborne were sold to a different film company and can't be used in the MCU I thought perhaps that Iron Patriot would be out too (although that armour was originally intended for Steve, if I'm remembering right, and was only in Osborne's hands because he took pretty much everything from Tony after the secret invasion bit, so maybe someone else steals it?). And this one looks like it has War Machine's cannon but tilted back rather than in useable position (or it did in one of the bits in the trailer/stills I saw).
Either way, it's going to be interesting, and I still hope that the movie has lots of Rhodey! And lots of Pepper... and quite possibly that they do go down the sentient armour route that the trailer seemed to imply, because thus far all Tony's tech has worked out well (aside from the poisoning, but he got that fixed - or being sold to terrorists, but that wasn't down to his design) so seeing this Tony react to that would be very interesting.
Sorry, didn't mean to be patronising (hope I didn't sound like that; after all I've learned most about what I know of the Iron Patriot recently)!
And, this is very true - the whole different film companies thing keep on slipping my mind entirely. It'd make sense for it to be Rhodey/War Machine, imo, but I'm sitting down and I'm crossing my fingers they will make good of it!
No, no, you weren't, I just wanted to let you know that I knew about that already! A lot of fans that didn't get sucked into the comic books from the movies won't know about Iron Patriot :)
I was chatting about the trailer with G today, and she said she's seen it confirmed somewhere that it is War Machine with a paint job, but couldn't remember where she'd read it.
It's such a shame that there are different companies involved, but I guess at least that's meant that we do have more than just the MCU to watch! Though, it'd be nice if someone would do a series or a movie focussing on a female Avenger/superhero. A good one, where she actually gets to be heroic (like Black Widow in Avengers Assemble).
