come up to meet you
--
It snows on the day she comes back.
They've kept in touch, of course. Long, late night (early morning for her) phone calls that made Manager Ma faint when he saw the bill, several old-fashioned letters (until she realised they took too long to reach him) and a plethora of emails.
But a tinny, barely-audible I love you too, hyung-nim every night and a heart at the end of every email isn't the same as seeing the way Mi Nyeo's eyes light up and her lips curve into a warm smile every time he tells her he loves her.
Taekyung watches the snow begin to fall as he waits for the 4pm flight from Zimbabwe to arrive.
Which, by the way, is late.
Taekyung scowls, tightening the grey hood over his head as a couple of teenage girls squeal at the sight of Hwang Taekyung-oppa!. He checks his watch impatiently, before dialing furiously at his phone.
“Her flight’s supposed to arrive by now” he grinds out.
Taekyung can hear Manager Ma’s exasperated eye-roll over the phone.
“There’s probably been a short delay, Taekyung-ah; somebody got swine flu or something else mundane. You’ve waited for Mi Nyeo for three months, I think you can handle another half an hour. I have to go now; Jeremy brought Jolie to the photoshoot and it’s trying to eat the camera. Tell Mi Nyeo I said hi!”
Taekyung glares at the phone, mentally cursing Manager Ma.
He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath.
He can’t explain the inexplicable nervousness he feels that almost makes him want to throw up. Taekyung has been waiting for this day for far too long, waiting for her to come back, with her bright eyes and even brighter smile, maybe even tripping over her own feet trying to make her way to him with an excited hyung-nim!.
Obviously he’s spent way too much time fantasizing about this day.
He’s so wrapped up in his thoughts (I wonder if her hair is longer; is she still going to be the same old Pig-Rabbit; I’m going to love her forever, aren’t I?) that he doesn’t even notice said-girl-occupying-his-thoughts standing in front of him, a soft smile on her face.
“Are you waiting for someone, hyung-nim?”
Taekyung’s head snaps up so fast Mi Nyeo can hear the crick of his neck. He stares at her in awe, as if he can’t believe she’s really there. Mi Nyeo gently smiles back. They stay put, regarding each other in silence. Taekyung notices she’s a little tanner, and her hair has grown out to her shoulders (it really, really suits her). Mi Nyeo can see the dark circles under his eyes (stayed up writing songs again, didn’t you?), the bangs covering them and how much skinnier he seemed.
“I’m back” Mi Nyeo murmurs. “I missed yo-”
Before she even finishes her sentence, Taekyung wraps her in a crushing hug, sighing into her hair. Mi Nyeo suppresses the urge to press her nose (old habits never die), before slipping her arms around his waist, burying herself into his chest. It feels good to be home.
Taekyung doesn’t think he’ll ever let go, and he’s pretty sure he doesn’t want to. All he knows is that his Pig-Rabbit is back today, and he’ll kill her if she ever tries to leave again.
(Taekyung’s always loved snowy days.)
