So earlier this week I got involved in the anti-sealing debate via facebook. I was absolutely disgusted by the comments from many many people APPLAUDING the recent deaths of sealers in Newfoundland, so I started to write and contribute to several groups, going as far to personally email the creators (mostly to address the issues around their censoring of material to the group). The whole time I aggressively posted pictures of slaughterhouses with captions and posted news items drawing attention to the REAL facts on the seal hunt, the REAL facts on the groups who make millions of dollars on this movement (how I'm still kinda confused on other than donations and what exactly are their motives?)..
Then I got banned from facebook. My account was disabled because they had busted me on a violation of terms of agreement (not clear and, of course, facebook allows no contact with administrators). The whole thing left me a little burned but I can't say I'm surprised. I just now checked the group only to find more and more people posting to the group responsible for getting me banned, posing questions about the motives and ideas behind the protest, only to have their messages deleted. What's worse is a creator of a group, this woman *don't message her personally it's a violation of terms!!, responded to detractors by saying "You're no better than the anti-semitic's who would be in a jewish group condoning Hitler..." which just leaves me speechless, especially given the hard and heavy cultural prejudice being displayed by these idiots.
