Today I saw the face of hate,
and I wished I could have stayed ignorant.
I did not want to know that this exists,
in this place I call home.
I know too much of violence and pain,
but to know that it continues to be passed
one generation to the next,
out of fear and anger and ignorance.
two young men, younger than me,
"WHITE POWER" tattooed proudly
on one's chest for the world.
the other looking for a place to be,
where he did not have to be next
to the cute indo canadian girl.
two young men with their entire adult lives
still ahead of them
to be lived in hate and violence.
how i wished to be brave and say
how the change had been handed to him
by a card-carrying lesbo dyke.
but fear of recrimination, fear of violence,
kept the words from leaving my lips.
instead i sent them on their way
as quickly as i could, but their presence
is still with me...
