A/N: I have no idea where this came from.
Flashing lights. Pounding. Heat. Sweat. “How did you talk me into this again?” Kame nearly shouted.
Jin rolled his eyes with dramatic exaggeration. “Cheer up, Kame. You’ll have fun if you just let yourself.” Jin took another sip of his vodka and grinned at Kame, the steady pounding of the music doing its best to drown out their conversation.
Although Jin seemed assured of his words, Kame was skeptical. In the spirit of relationship selflessness, he had agreed to go out with Jin to his favourite club, even though he would have much rather been in a hot bath listening to some soothing music right about now. The club was very private, and extremely exclusive; (Kame himself had gotten in only because he was with Jin,) so Jin had convinced him it was safe to go. But still, he felt slightly uneasy, the place was full of strange men and women dressed in all sorts of costumes for their night out, a considerable number of peculiar foreigners, and a lot of very drunk individuals.
“What do you want to drink? It’s on me, you know.” Jin spoke close to Kame’s ear in order to be heard, his lower half swinging around excitedly from side to side on his barstool.
“I don’t know. Beer?”
Jin frowned. “You can get beer at home, Kame. Isn’t there anything else you’d like?”
The music changed to a faster paced song. It was making Kame slightly on-edge. “I don’t really feel like getting buzzed tonight.” This place was buzzing enough as is.
Jin leaned closer, putting a hand on Kame’s wrist. “I want you to have fun tonight, babe. Are you that miserable?”
Jin’s sudden puppy-dog eyes made Kame feel bad; he did not want to spoil Jin’s fun. The whole point of coming here was to make Jin happy; it was selfish to not at least try to enjoy himself, for Jin’s sake. He tried a smile. “No, I’m sorry. I’m fine, Jin.” Kame’s smile became genuine when Jin’s eyes brightened. “How about a cocktail? Whatever you can recommend.” Jin’s bright smile warmed Kame’s heart, helping him to ignore the feeling of uneasiness in his gut.
Jin looked absolutely stunning tonight. His hair was down and resting along his shoulders, with his fringe pinned up above his head, exposing his forehead. He was wearing a close-fit black v-neck top and a pair of faded ripped jeans, with a wallet chain hanging from his belt loops.
Bracelets adorned his wrists, turtle earring studs glinted in his ears, and a necklace Kame had given him years ago was in place around his neck.
It was his smile that made the whole ensemble really come together.
Kame himself had gone for a less conspicuous outfit. He wore loose jeans and a slightly baggy jacket, the collar tucked up as much around his face as possible, ignoring Jin’s repeated assurances that they wouldn’t be recognized. But Jin just seemed happy enough that he agreed to come.
“Wanna dance?” The music had just changed again, to something with a heavy beat and a flirty melody. Jin’s eyes alone were practically groping him in anticipation.
Kame agreed, again for Jin’s sake. He did enjoy dancing, after all.
The beat of the music had the entire dance floor buzzing with the vibrations; hot, sweaty, excited bodies bustling everywhere, all absorbed in their respective partners. Jin’s body was instantly drawn into the rhythm of the music, his hips swaying to the beat as if they had become part of the frequency wave.
Kame allowed Jin to pull him closer in his enthusiasm. Jin’s captivation with the atmosphere was infectious, and Kame soon found himself immersed in the music himself. It pounded through their bodies as they were pressed together, becoming in sync with their heartbeats.
Kame hooked his fingers into Jin’s belt loops, tugging on his hips, and Jin gave him a grin that was an interesting mix of flirty and shy. Justification enough to risk kissing him, Kame rationalized.
Their tongues danced in a parallel rhythm to their bodies; a steady pulse of tongue and mouths corresponding to heavy beats and vibrations.
When the song ended, Kame was surprised to find he was actually slightly disappointed, but then Jin nipped at his neck and said “Another one?” and Kame nibbled his earlobe in answer.
After several more songs, Kame thought it would be better if they took a break, if the bulge in Jin’s pants was anything to go by. Kame was not drunk enough for that much public affection yet.
He tugged on Jin’s wrist, leading him back toward the bar. Jin was whining but he was smiling as well. Kame’s heart danced a little bit harder at the sight of Jin’s bright, happy eyes. He jerked him close and squeezed his side in a sudden burst of affection.
“Told you.” Jin said once they had found empty stools again. “I knew you could have fun if you tried.”
Kame ducked his head, pretending to be studying his drink, and smiled. He was having fun, being with Jin made all the difference. It was private here, safe. And Jin was here. There was no reason why he couldn’t allow himself some fun.
“Those are some nice moves you got, baby. How about showing me what else you’ve got?”
The foreign voice, the flirting voice, instantly seized Kame’s full attention. It belonged to a tall man, huge; a foreigner with broad shoulders, bright blond hair, and protruding biceps. He had a handsome face for a foreigner, with high cheekbones, a charismatic smile, and bright blue eyes. Eyes that were focused on Jin.
“Hah?” Jin had instantly perked up in attention at the sound of English, eyes wide as he spun around to face the newcomer. “I’m sorry?”
The man’s grin widened. “You speak English?” he asked. “You are just all full of special talents, aren’t you?” He stepped closer.
“Yes, I-“ Jin blinked at the man’s sudden proximity, and stepped back slightly, until he could feel Kame at his back. “I don’t believe we’ve met…?”
The foreigner stuck out his hand. “Derek,” he said, gripping Jin’s hand tightly and stepping closer to him once more. “What’s your name, pretty?”
Kame went stiff. It was obvious that Jin was taken off guard by the man’s abnormal forwardness, his eyes darting back and forth and his breathing quickening. “Uh, It’s… Jin. Um-“
“Jim? That’s an odd name for a Jap. You deserve a cuter name, baby.” The man was stepping closer again and Kame felt a fist forming. He didn’t understand this man’s words, but he definitely understood his tone. “Wanna dance?”
And there’s the other fist…
Jin laughed, seeming to find this encounter ridiculous. “Actually, I’m here with my boyfriend.” Jin said, indicating Kame and bowing slightly. “I’m sorry.”
“Boyfriend?” The man now deemed Kame worthy of inspection. “I figured this was your little sister of something.” He cackled at his own joke. “I can show you a better time, honey. I’ll take you for a real ride.”
Despite not understanding everything the man said, Kame understood the word ‘boyfriend’ and the disbelieving tone in the man’s voice. He understood the haughtiness of his cackle and the lust in his eyes.
And the hand on Jin’s arm.
“Excuse me.” Kame said, stepping in front of a now flustered and uncomfortable Jin. “I’m sorry. This is my boyfriend. Please leave now.”
“Kame…” Jin voiced softly.
“And now why would I do that, pretty? You want him to have the best, don’t you? I could show him a fine time, a real fine time. He’ll have the best night of his life, better than all nights with you put together. I’ll give him the ride of his life.” The foreigner babbled on, and touched Jin again, lifting his chin up to look him in the eye. “You want to go with me, don’t you beautiful?”
Jin jerked his chin away from the man in disgust, holding an arm out in front of Kame to keep him from snapping. “No, thank you.” He said with finality. His hand slipped back to link with Kame’s, squeezing it when he grasped Kame’s trembling palm.
“Now now. Don’t be that way baby.” The man made sure to raise himself to his full height, approaching Jin again and gripping his wrist. “Believe me. You’d regret it.”
“Please let go!” Jin said, his voice rising in pitch and all sanity left Kame when the foreigner roughly gripped Jin’s hip.
The hand holding Jin’s pulled him back behind him, his other hand stretching out and forcefully shoving the foreigner away from Jin, harder than the man had expected by the look on his face.
“Just who do you think you are? You want to play rough, do you?” The man straightened up again, eyeing Kame with intent, his face hard and body stiff. His right hand formed a fist and he grinned.
“Kame!”
The man lunged at Kame with a deliberate and conspicuous punch, giving Kame plenty of time to dodge. The man was much bigger than he was and therefore much slower, and Kame knew how to use that to his advantage, remembering every trick he had learned in all his boxing practice.
Another blow was thrown at him and again Kame promptly stepped clear, evading easily. The amount of strength and power put behind each attempted blow made the man slow in his recovery and Kame used that time to step in and throw a blow of his own, hard and solid into the man’s gut.
The man doubled over in pain and surprise, lifting his head and revealing eyes full of rage. In his anger he drastically lunged at Kame again.
Not a blow this time but straight out attempt for his throat, and the martial arts Kame had learned as a child suddenly came back to him as he twisted the man’s arm roughly, ducking under it to twist it behind him, shoving him away in disgust. The foreigner toppled to the floor this time, knocking into a table and causing people and drinks to spill all over each other.
“Kame!” Jin called again, slightly panicking and rushing to Kame’s side. “Are you okay? What… How is this happening?” Jin fussed over Kame, searching for nonexistent injuries and babbling incoherent disbelief. Kame glanced away from Jin to the foreigner, who now had a crowd gathering around him and had his gaze fixed on Kame. He stood up, squaring his broad shoulders, glaring at Kame with vengeful wrath.
Until his gaze shifted, and his eyes now fixed on Jin, filled with evil intentions and desire and lust.
And Kame lost it.
Indignation and fury coursed though his veins as the man dared to step in Jin’s direction again, and Kame pushed Jin behind him.
“Kame, don’t. I can-“
“This is my fight, Jin. Stay back.” This man could easily overpower either of them with his size alone; strategic tactics were needed in order to defeat him. Jin was not a fighter; he’d had very little practice with fighting and stood no chance, and Kame knew that Jin was aware of this.
Jin reluctantly obeyed, and had not retreated more than a couple of steps before the foreigner charged at Kame once again.
Kame ducked repeatedly as blow after blow was hurled toward him. He tried to throw a few in retaliation, but they were blocked every time by the man’s huge arms. They were like maces, twin columns of solid steel that Kame was certain could knock him cold with one blow. His speed and reaction time were critical.
People were shouting things at them now, some cheers and some complaints, wanting to see someone land a punch. Out of the corner of his eye Kame could see Jin trying to spot him over the crowd.
Again the man’s fist came toward him, and Kame prepared to dodge the blow once again, when he realised only a split second too late that the man had faked to his left, and Kame was left wide open for only that fraction of a second too long, and the man’s fist collided spitefully with Kame’s stomach.
“Kame!”
Kame doubled over at the sudden fierce pain, his organs screaming at him. His senses of sight and sound seemed to be blurring. The floor, he was on the floor, his breath coming in harsh gasps. He couldn’t think, he could hardly breathe. The world seemed to be moving in slow motion.
Cruel and hearty chuckling came from somewhere above him, and a coarse hand wrenched him onto his back roughly. Kame stared up into hateful blue eyes. The man spit some more hateful words he could not understand at him before cackling again and straightening suddenly to catch a frantic Jin in his arms before he could reach him.
“KAME!” Jin’s voice. High-pitched again. Kame’s vision was fuzzy. Everything sounded as if he were under water. His ears were ringing.
Chaos everywhere. There were people everywhere, gathered around with various expressions of horror, shock, astonishment, and for some, even amusement. There were voices bellowing from every direction; people shouting everywhere. Kame only heard Jin.
“KAME!”
The man’s hands were on Jin, all over Jin, and he could do nothing to stop it. The man was twice Jin’s size and infinitely stronger. Neither of them could compete with that. Jin could do nothing. Kame could do nothing.
People touching him now. Every prod made the agony in his gut increase exponentially. The world was still spinning. Kame’s organs were still churning. That man was still touching his boyfriend.
“Stop it! Let me go you bastard! What did you do to him?! I’ll fucking kill you! LET ME GO!”
There was too much chaos. No one heard Jin’s cries for help. But how could they not hear him. He sounded so scared. Couldn’t anyone see…
Jin somehow found an opening and threw a vicious elbow into the foreigner’s already throbbing gut. The man cried out in pain, then violently smacked Jin’s ass in anger. “Please, stop!” Hysteria in Jin’s high-pitched voice now. He was frantic, terrified.
The world had to stop spinning. Kame shook the blurriness out of his eyes and saw Jin, in the clutches of that hateful ogre, one vile paw holding Jin tightly by his waist and the other finding its way under Jin’s top, laughing uncontrollably at Jin’s distress and inability to escape. No one noticed. No one noticed.
“Jin…” Kame swallowed down a tormented cry of agony as he tried to stand up, luckily getting a few people belatedly helping him up. He trembled on shaky legs, his eyes watering from the pain as he clutched his stomach.
Urgent, heated fury helped him ignore the pain when he saw the foreigner forcing Jin into the bathroom, a hand over his mouth to silence him. Kame shoved people roughly out of his way as he followed, his hands forming fists and his expression one of stone.
Losing himself into the crowd, he stumbled unsteadily, an arm clutched around his middle. Jin’s cries for him ran repeatedly through his head, and with every step Kame became more confident.
He kicked open the bathroom door to find Jin against the wall, gasping as if he’d just had the breath knocked out of him, that hateful man fumbling with the button on Jin’s jeans and muttering some vile foreign words.
“Take your filthy hands off of him right now, you bastard.” Kame’s voice was calm, deadly, a lethal tinge to his words that made the man jerk his head up in surprise.
“You-“
Kame roughly seized the man’s collar without hesitation and hurled his fist into the man’s face, sending him flying across the room. The man gasped in surprise and shouted some foreign curse words until Kame shut him up with another blow to the skull.
The foreigner tried to grab Kame by the wrists but Kame seemed to suddenly possess an exceptional agility like never before. He kicked the man’s legs out from under him before sending another vicious kick into his face. The sight of blood did nothing to appease Kame’s fury, neither did the man’s sudden pleas for mercy, and Kame knelt down beside him to stove in the man’s skull a few more times.
Even when the man passed into unconsciousness Kame was still not satisfied, until he heard a voice call his name.
“Kazuya.”
Kame was snapped out of his trance by that voice alone, and he crawled to Jin’s side, palming his face and fussing over him. “Jin. Jin. Are you okay? I’m so sorry. I didn’t… I couldn’t… I-“
Jin hushed him and pulled him close, Kame’s face in his neck as he sputtered more apologies. “Shh. I’m fine, Kazuya. Are you all right?”
Kame nodded, even though the pain was suddenly almost unbearable. “Jin…” Kame leaned up, and Jin wordlessly met his mouth with his. Kame kissed him with everything he had until he didn’t even have the strength to hold himself up anymore, and slumped into Jin’s arms.
“We need to get out of here, baby. I need to get you to a hospital.”
Kame groaned and tried to argue, but as Jin gently lifted him up into his arms and cradled him against his chest, the world finally went black.
-
His ears were ringing. A high-pitched buzzing and a few low murmurs were all Kame could hear as he opened his eyes. His vision was blurry, and figures dressed in white were hovering around him.
“…think he’s coming to.” One of them said, staring at him. “…you hear me sir?”
Kame shook his head to clear it, then nodded slightly. His vision began to clear. “What…” he rasped, throat dry. “Where am I? Jin? Where’s Jin?” Someone spooned him some ice chips and he thought he heard someone mutter something about fetching ‘that man who brought him in.’
“You’re in the hospital sir. You just came out of a scan of your injuries. We’re afraid you may have ruptured your liver or spleen.”
“My liver?” Where was Jin? Was he okay? Why wasn’t he here?
“Can you tell me your name?” A woman. She had a clip board in her hand, scribbling something on it.
Name. Right. “Kamenashi-“
“Kazuya!” Jin was suddenly there, running to him and grabbing on to his hand. “Are you all right? How do you feel? What did the doctor say?” Jin turned his head. “Sensei, how is he? Is he all right? Is it serious?”
Kame’s heartbeat sped up at the sound of Jin’s voice. He was okay.
“Calm yourself, Akanishi-san. I’ve got his test results right here.” A man said, taking the clipboard from the nurse and indicating for Jin to sit. “Please sit down and we’ll discuss them.”
Jin sat down, still holding tightly onto Kame’s hand. They didn’t know this doctor. The one that Kame had been accustomed to consulting after injuries had advised a specialist this time, and it had Jin worried sick.
Kame only vaguely heard the details of his injuries. Took a hard blow, liver’s a tough organ, didn’t quite rupture, stay the night just to be safe, very lucky. His attention was on Jin only, who was currently focused on each of the doctor’s words as if his life depended on it. Or maybe Kame’s.
Once they were finally left alone, Kame didn’t hesitate to speak up. “Are you okay?” he croaked, his throat dry again.
Spooning some more ice chips into Kame’s mouth, Jin let out a disbelieving huff. “You’re the one in the hospital bed, remember?”
“Yeah, but… Are you really all right?” Kame gripped Jin’s hand tightly in both of his, squeezing slightly. “I saw… That guy…he didn’t…hurt you?”
Jin brushed the fingertips of his free hand gently over Kame’s face, smiling softly. “Aside from minor bruises on my body and ego, I came out of the ordeal unscathed. Thanks to you.” Jin leaned down to press a kiss on Kame’s cheek. “Thank you.”
Kame let out a sigh of relief and finally allowed himself to relax into the pillows. He didn’t let go of Jin’s hand.
“I was so scared, Kazu. When he hit you. I thought… I thought…”
Kame squeezed his hand. “I know,” he said, and for a moment neither of them said anything.
“Want to hear something interesting?” Jin asked him a few minutes later, looking suddenly pleased. “That guy was in the country illegally. Apparently he’s this huge identity thief who got into the country with high quality counterfeit identification. He’s wanted for identity theft and fraud as well as assault after tonight. The police looked pretty happy when they arrived and found him.”
“The police?!”
“Yeah. They came shortly after you passed out. When they found it was you who had beat him into submission, they offered to drive us to the hospital.” Jin grinned. “You’re a hero.”
“Don’t be stupid.”
“Well, you’re mine anyway.” Jin’s smile widened, and he leaned in and pressed his lips to Kame’s. “He’s here in the hospital too, with a broken face.”
“A what?”
“The doctor listed too many things off, it’s just easier to say a broken face.”
Kame chuckled, but secretly wished he had done more. “And, you’re really okay right?”
“Perfectly fine.”
“But.. didn’t he.. you know, touch you?” Unwittingly his hands once again clenched into fists.
“Nothing that a few dozen showers won’t fix. And maybe a night in your bed.” When Kame gave a small smile, Jin kissed him again.
-
After Jin had assured Kame that the police understood their position as celebrities and promised not to let their names be published in association with the incident, Kame at last allowed himself some rest. Jin stayed with him as long as visiting hours lasted, and then a little longer, before standing up and declaring he was going home so Kame could get some sleep.
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning, okay?”
“Mhmm.”
“Sleep well, all right?”
“Mhmm.”
Careful to be gentle, Jin leaned in and gently brushed their lips together, doing so once more when Kame whined when he started to pull back. “Goodnight, Kazuya.”
“Mmm g’night, Jin.”
Jin pulled the cover gently over his already dozing boyfriend, taking soft steps toward the door, and then stopped. “Kazu?”
“Hmm…?”
“Next time you want to take a hot bath, just talk me into joining you, all right?”
Kame let out a soft chuckle, and Jin let the door fall closed behind him with a soft click.
