[Johannes is tucked safely into his thankfully dry lab, but there is a shadow on his face. He is operating by candlelight.]

Alice has stopped answering me, and her communicator is offline. I believe she may have gone home. Just an announcement for those of you who might have known the child.

[And, with a distinct scowl, he ends the feed.]

don't say a word horst, heart two sizes two small, what i hate people, mad necromancer, stupid children, really not missing anyone

[See that vacant stare from Raven? Because she knows already. But you're making it real. How dare you? She wants to hate you for that because she has to hate someone for that.]

[She can cope with anything. Being left tortured in a burning building. Having tea and a friendly chat with Lucifer. The Apocalyse. You name it. But this? She can not. She bites her lips hard enough to draw blood. She can feel that last bit of self-control she's managed to keep up about to snap. Denial is her only exit. And so she clings onto it.]

She's not gone.

[She looks up now, staring at Johannes with such anger in her eyes. There's a growl to her voice too.]

You let Alice go alone into the wastelands? And during an event? Are you fucking irresponsible?

I'm gonna go look for her now. And once I've found her, next thing you'll know she's moving out.

[He gives her a look, because it's so much easier to deal with being irritated with her than the possibility that he might actually care that Alice is gone.]

Are you a complete fool? Why would I let a child into the verdammt Wastes?

She's gone home, you ridiculous girl.

[Her voice raises just like that. Because he's playing his part, fueling her rage. She can be angry against him because he never cares about Alice. Or at least it's easier to see it that way.]

You think a harmless carnival is the instrument of Hell! What tells me the wastes do not qualify as an appropriate kid playground in that deranged brain of yours?

[And purposedly ignoring the last part.]

Raven.

[Evenly.]

He isn't the person you need to be angry with.

I hardly need someone rising to my defense, Fraulein.

And I don't need the headache of the two of you arguing over something that doesn't need to be argued over.

I'm not in your house, shouting over your shoulder. You could avoid the argument altogether by not worrying yourself over what's going on with my network post.

Involving myself where I'm not wanted is what I do best.

[She sounds tired.]

...The first loss hurts the most. She needed to understand that.

[She could care less about defending Johannes.]

Perhaps you should consider another hobby, then.

She'll learn with or without your interfereance. She doesn't have much of a choice.

You have a lot of faith in people not deluding themselves.

[Usagi's view of this world will never change, no matter how hard Rei works to make her see reality.]

I have zero faith in people at all. Either she will accept it, or she will eventually break.

Watching the people I care about break in this place isn't something I enjoy doing. The faster she gets it, the better.

My advice? Stop watching. I'm sure you have nothing but the best intentions, but they mean precious little here.

And besides that, it's annoying. My PCD goes off every time people insist on bickering after something I said.

Deal with it.

[Somewhat irritably. She can't stop watching. Something may happen. That, and knowing who is and isn't in the city is important.]
