[He gives her a look, because it's so much easier to deal with being irritated with her than the possibility that he might actually care that Alice is gone.]

[Her voice raises just like that. Because he's playing his part, fueling her rage. She can be angry against him because he never cares about Alice. Or at least it's easier to see it that way.]
