shiv'ah

In the Jewish tradition "sitting shiva" is when members of the temple, family, and friends visit the house of someone mourning the death of their father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister or spouse. it usually lasts for seven days and there is a short service at night, but my mother only wanted to do it one night. my grandmother passed away on saturday, we went to the funeral in florida and had just returned wednesday night.

Anyways, I was totally blown away by the shiva service. Friends of the family provided all of the food and set everything up... and i was overwhelmed at how many people were there. This week there has been so many memories that have all been coming back so strong. I was so glad to see so many of these people from the community i grew up in. Neighbors, members of the temple, friends.. all this extended family all in our house. Home hasn't been home for a while now. But that was something I won't forget.
