'24' is coming to town!

Our Bauer

Jack Bauer fans get ready (and we’re looking at you, Sen. John McCain and President Clinton): Yeas & Nays has learned that Fox’s “24” is coming to D.C. in early November. Although the show has previously featured stock footage of various Washington monuments and locales, no original filming has taken place in Washington, according to Crystal Palmer, who directs D.C.’s Office of Motion Picture & TV Development. (“24” has aired six “days” - or seasons - thus far in its run.)

The show plans to film for six days (in three-day stints, most likely), and, yes, Kiefer Sutherland will be here (the actor recently pleaded no contest to a Sept. 25 DUI and will serve a 48-day jail sentence beginning in December).

But if you see Sutherland driving around town, think twice before lunging yourself at the hunk: There will also be a Sutherland look-alike on hand to do driving scenes and any other scenes in which a mere Bauer Blur will substitute for the real thing.

Of course, the fires currently raging in Southern California could throw a wrench in Fox’s plans, but a source close to the planned shoot told Yeas & Nays that, as of now, it’s still all systems go.

A production company is scheduled to arrive in D.C. today to begin scouting locations, and it is unlikely that many large crowd shots will take place. Also, a source tells us that cameo appearances (say, by a senator or VIP just dying to get on the show) are not in the works. But you can rest assured that our monuments will figure prominently as backdrops and filming spots.

“This is huge for D.C.,” Palmer said. “This is the first time they’ve come into D.C. and done this level of filming.”

Betsy Royall Casting, CSA, which also helped sign local extras for episodes of “The West Wing,” is doing the casting.

...hmm...surreptitiously place myself in all the monument shots?
