No puppy, but a new promotion

So, yesterday was a very sucky day. On Monday, Pat and I had gone to the Philly animal control agency and looked at dogs. We walked in and there was "the puppy of our dreams". (S)he was the cutest little 8 month old German Shepherd mix ball of fuzz anyone has ever seen. Pat and I said in unison "we want that one". Well, the guy explained, that dog has already had his paperwork filed to be transfered to the SPCA. They couldn't give us the dog and we would have to talk to the SPCA.

We drove over to the SPCA and talked to them. The dog wasn't there yet (obviously, because we drove those 3 blocks faster than they could have driven). We explained to them that we wanted that dog as soon as possible. "No, we need to check the dog over by the vet. He'll be ready tomorrow." But, we argued, the PACA had inspected the dog. "Doesn't matter." Pat told me he would go tomorrow at noon.

That night, Pat remembered he would be in meetings for the entire day and wouldn't be able to get the dog. Uh oh.

Yesterday, I had a visit in the afternoon. I couldn't find the place I was supposed to have the meeting. At 3pm, I gave up and decided I would get the dog. I drove all the way up to the SPCA and said "You have a dog that I want. Can you look it up?" No, I would have to look through all of the cages for him. This part always tears me up inside, because I want to take them all home. Anyway, (s)he wasn't there. Turns out, the dog had been adopted earlier, by someone else. :-( I spent the rest of the evening bummed out about it.

Today started off poorly. It was raining and blowing to beat the band. I wore my flannel pants to stay warm, only to find out it was 60F outside. What?!?! So, I've been too warm all day at work. I had a visit that I had to rush up to because the contractor I was meeting with was confused about when it would start. So, blah morning.

After lunch, I got an email from Jen B., the hiring manager for this internal position as the Compliance Specialist for the other direct service program in my department. This brand new position would entail, first, my helping recover unbilled cash in the order of $700k. Then, the position would branch out to cover more keeping us in compliance with our contracts. Anyway, the email said she wanted to talk to me about the position (I had interviewed for it 2 weeks ago). The good news is that I got the position. The position, currently, is not supervisory, but there is a small pay raise (enough to make me happy), so it's not really a promotion as it is a lateral shift to a new position. But, it means I don't need to go out on visits everyday. And I'll be in a new department. I'm so excited. Thought I would share the good and bad news.
