So, yesterday I did what I drove up to Massachusetts to ride 50 miles for my aunt's birthday.
We all met up at 10am to decide what the weather would end up being like. Since it only looked like it was going to be a drizzle or light rain, we decided to head out. My Aunt Pat decided to help me out and loaned me a bike jersey. I felt less wet than I would have with only a cotton t-shirt on, that's for sure.
There were 5 of us. Four people with road bikes and one guy on a hybrid, because his road bike was in the shop. We ended up riding 20 miles from N. Andover to Ipswich, and stopping at an orchard to get cider and apple cider donuts. On the way, we spent about a mile on a dirt road, so we all looked absolutley filthy.
The ride back was cleaner, but the rain was heavier. We got home, tired, but had only rode 40 miles. The guy with the hybrid headed home, and Aunt Tina had to run errands. Aunt Pat, her friend and I rode a 12 mile loop, to finish out the 50+ miles. We left around 10:30, stopped for about a half-hour and finished up around 3:30, so 4.5 hours. We only averaged about 11.5 MPH, but the guy on the hybrid had slowed us down (normally, he is the strongest rider, especially since he just rode from Massachusetts to Oregon).
Anyway, I've now done at least one ride over 50 miles, and a ride entirely in the rain. So, I'm feelin pretty hardcore (or hawdcuwah, if your from MA).
