Hughes comes across as a puppy! He seems completely harmless, a little inept, etc. etc., only Midna is suspicious by nature and totally doesn't buy that harmless image you're selling. It helps that he pulled a knife on her that one time, too. Not to mention he's part of a military force, and usually they're supposed to know a thing or two about fighting.

She's skeptical about how tough he actually is, though, and probably IS underestimating him a bit. Not so much based on how he acts, but rather the fact that he was killed in his world, which means he couldn't have been THAT strong (of course, she doesn't know a thing about homunculi or anything).

He seems to be the reliable sort, which is why she kind of likes him, although when he talked about his family before it made her uncomfortable because she knows he can never go back to them ouch my kokoro heart place etc. etc. He's also interesting to her because she's never really interacted with an adult human before! And someone who's dead, but seems remarkably well-adjusted despite that. It's really interesting and like a social study or something idk.

Hughes kinda sees Midna as a little girl. He knows she isn't, but he really can't help it.

He likes her a lot, in general. At first he was a bit suspicious because of the whole darkness thing, but he's better now! I mean, really if Midna wasn't good she wouldn't have been all >( at him over getting hurt.

AS A NOTE, HE'S ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR THE THING MIDNA WANTS. He just hasn't found anything. "SOMETHING THAT COMES FROM THE SHADOWS" is a pretty vague description.

YES IT'S VAGUE but hilariously it's more than you get in canon, at least initially. But actually I'm writing up a post on that this weekend! And probably and email too actually -- I'm doing something with that, honestly, I promise XD
