What Killed Saturday Morning Cartoons? -- He really scored points on that matter because today isn't yesterday; kids aren't kids anymore but cut more like teenagers even at grade three; and for Chrissake's I miss the reason to wake up early, watching old-school Transformers and the old American sched lineup. xD ( Read more... )

This generation gets more bombarded by media (and consume a bigger truckload of Internet bandwidth) than any other time in history, and it's more pronounced among kids today. Already my nephew, sad to say, even at the age of 3 is already a Cartoon Network fanatic.

The average 9 year old in my neighborhood knows about computer games, Youtube, Friendster.com, Nokia cellular phones (especially the latest "N" models), My Chemical Romance lyrics, and the latest gangsta rap hit. And they think they're so damn smart but they're practically milking cows for corporate giants.

At least most girls (except maybe the ones wearing clothes like they're characters from Bratz and thus look like they're Pedobear material) at that age are, IMHO, more "mature" than boys in the sense they're being trained (and training themselves) to deal with more serious situations, parenthood and adult responsibilities by the time they hit the age of 18.

Given those problems, sometimes I think of when I get married someday, I'll raise my children in the country where they'll go outside and play than watch too much TV.
