CONFIDENCE - My First Published Game!

As many of you may know, designing board games has been a hobby of mine for years. The biggest frustration thus far has been trying to get something published professionally. Traditionally, that's the toughest step for any game designer, because unless you manage to convince a larger company to buy your game, self-publishing is prohibitively expensive, as printers would need a print run of 5,000 to 10,000 copies to make it worth their while. Well, this year The Game Crafter, LLC opened its doors and made it possible for designers to print and sell games on a "print on demand" basis. Although the cost of such printing on a per-unit basis is higher, it's a dream come true for us "small fish" out there.

After testing out their product I published my "word poker" game, CONFIDENCE. The object of CONFIDENCE is to score points by making words that use all of the letters dealt from a "Payoff Letter Deck" and one or both of the cards in one's hand. A player may "cash out" and score a word at any time; however, as more "payoff cards" are dealt, the point values of the letters increase and opportunities to earn double- and triple-letter and -word bonuses arise and the desire to risk losing everything on "one more card" is tempting. The game is for two to four players, with variant rules included to allow even more to play.
