Advice wanted :-)

Mostly looking at parents and teacher-types here (although anyone else is welcome to pitch in!).

The goblin is desperately trying to read. I asked our 'early years co-ordinator' for advice some months ago, and she suggested matching pairs games, letter and number jigsaws and so on to practice pre-reading skills. I've done all that with her and she's really really good at them now, and trying hard to read everything in sight, bless her :-) As it seems she now won't be going to nursery till January after all, I thought I would take the time to make a good start with her.

At the moment we get her to tell us a story from the pictures, or try and read words in the story, and she is reading the ones she recognises and guessing others from the picture and context - which is great! :-) I'm just not sure what to do next...I have a "fantasy phonics" set which I'm going to break out with her now, but I wondered if anyone recommended anything else?

Liz - I know you really rate the 'Oxford Reading Tree' scheme, but my parents looked at them and at £2.50 per book, I can't really afford it :-( Sadly, Sheffield libraries aren't allowed to stock any of that sort of book as they are "leisure" and not "education" - the lovely lady at our Children's Library explained when I asked, and is clearly really cross about it!
