I'm doing research for a project about the transgender movement and the Stonewall riot. I found out some interesting tidbits that might warm your heart as much as they did mine:
1. Black Cat Cafe' was a gay bar in San Francisco in the 50's/60's that took political action against the police to prevent itself from being shut down...(think about THAT the next time you start craving a Cafe' Mocha)!
2. During WWII there was a travelling drag show almost exclusively for the entertainment of our good ole boys in green.
3. Gay people have the coolest songs ever:
Ex. 1: Gay version of My Country Tis of Thee entitled God Save The Queen
Ex. 2: Folk song that starts off "If yer disposition's gaaaaayyy, be mighty glad yer made that way; don't frown cuz yer worrrld is upside doooowwwnn. Why should you be called a fool for not conforming to the rules, it has its advantages a-boooooound.
Well?...is your heart warm?...i hope so, cuz if it ain't, yer--uh---you're in big trouble!
Vive l'homosexualite'!!!
