Drinking coffee with the girls had been a quiet occasion, and he had spent it observing his new partner in his element. It... intrigued him, how Dojima acted. How he cared for his daughter and the other girl living under his roof was obvious, and perhaps unsurprising. He was a good man, from what he could tell. A very good man.

Briefly, Hughes and so many other faces came to mind. Roy stuffed the memories away, and focused on his own two feet walking down the corridor. He was following Dojima now - the latter had intended to show him the rest of the area, including wherever it was that Roy would be sleeping in from then on.

OTL this is so late i'm sorryyyyyy smokersona March 2 2010, 11:34:15 UTC
Perhaps it was his way of making up for all those nights of returning home late, for the years of neglect in favour of chasing shadows and dubious paper trails. He didn't want to make those same mistakes, not there. Not if what his nephew said would happen could happen. The mere thought of Nanako enduring all that was enough to quicken his pulse in mingled determination and panic. He couldn't carry on his mistakes to that new city. The least he could do was offer the same to that other child as well.

It was going to be quite a job, he knew, two small girls and an introvert in his household the same apartment. He couldn't help but liken Roy to Souji, the quiet nature, thought and calculation and the ever-working mind behind the reticent front. He had no doubt that it would take work, and a good bit of it, to draw Roy out and into the household.

"I hope you don't mind," he said, as he paused by a doorway, hand resting on the knob. "There are only two rooms in the place, and I'm pretty sure the girls would want one to themselves."

It's cool. :3 thewarisover March 2 2010, 15:44:30 UTC
...Ah. So they were sharing? Roy's expression was carefully schooled as he considered this new bit of information, and his partner. Not exactly an ideal setup, in his opinion, but it wasn't like he had never dealt with such an arrangement before.

"It's fine."

Who knows? Maybe it would help them both, staying in the same room. They were partnered, after all.

LATE AGAIN /sobsobsob smokersona March 7 2010, 13:26:51 UTC
It wasn't something he would have gone with had other options been present, granted. Dojima was a man of privacy, a man who enjoyed his space and the peace that came with it. Sharing a room put something of a hitch in that.

"Whenever I can next, I'll invest in a screen. Might not be much, but it'll serve until we can consider extensions."

While breaking down more walls wasn't something he looked forward to (just more roundabout reminders of that embarrassing night in his nephew's soon-to-be livingroom), he knew it would be necessary. In time.

"I'll foot the bill with you."

Roy shifted his duffel bag over to his other shoulder, waiting for the other to open the door. He wanted to get a good look at the place, in order to see how best to proceed.

"It's fine."

Casual politeness, as he pushed open that door, stepping into the room. Odd, that sense of apprehension, however mild. He could see no reason why showing his own Meister to his room should incite anxiety. What did he have to prove? How clean the floors were? How evenly-arranged the room itself was?

"Choose your bed. We may want to negotiate dividing closet space soon enough." Not that he had a full closet even under normal circumstance, but still.

OH BB, IT'S OKAY! ;w; thewarisover March 9 2010, 05:17:42 UTC
"I'll take the one by the window."

It was a decently-sized room, big enough to be partitioned evenly between two people, but not OVERLY large; everything seemed to be in order, as well. Of course, double checking never really hurt anyone...

And it was for that reason that Roy moved in, immediately applying himself to checking... well, everything. All the nooks and crannies, all the possible ways in and out and wherever.

Not quite paranoia, but it probably looked strange.

AGES LATER sobsob smokersona May 13 2010, 10:14:48 UTC
Strange indeed, but as he watched Roy go about it, Dojima could somewhat see the how and why of it. A soldier, so the younger man had said. Could he really fault him for his actions? For tendencies and habits picked up on the job? It was like blaming his nephew for standing up to take lead like he did. Just another facet.

It didn't change the fact that it was a saddening thing to think about. A man so young shouldn't have had to pick up, ingrain such a habit. Shouldn't have had to experience the need for it in the first place.

"Everything in order?"

...Ah. Dojima speaking suddenly made Roy very aware of what he had been doing. The alchemist straightened up, turning towards the other.

"Yeah. Thanks."

He wondered, idly, what the other thought about it.

He thought it a curious thing, fascinating and worth more than just a little consideration. He thought it sad, for the implications the action carried, the unspoken hints at the younger man's life before Death City. He thought it as just another facet of Roy to take into account, just another thing that comprised him.

"No need. So long as you find it to your liking, it's fine."

ONE STEP AT A TIME! Also, have some delicious irony. ♥ thewarisover June 8 2010, 01:01:44 UTC
No comment on it, not even the barest trace of a possibility of a question in the future - just an easy dismissal. Willful ignorance.

Was that how they were going to trust each other? If so, maybe that would be all right. Far and enough that the two of them had been brought together in the way that they had in the first place. They didn't need to dig too deep, didn't need to know everything in order to fight well and be the unit that this world seemed to expect them to be.

(Denial, certainly, but action made it easy to ignore.)

"I'll just settle in, then..."

Roy offered another wan smile at the other man, and returned to what he had been doing. There wasn't anything left to say, really. And, beyond that, there wasn't anything that he wanted to say.
