So. Uh. )
He hardly needed to ask who it was at the door (the possibilities were few enough as it were, and all the better under current circumstances). The voice calling out only confirmed his guesses.
"Just on time," he said by way of greeting, once the door was opened. It was accompanied by something of a smile, that faint quirk of lips.

Clearly, he was thinking about everything too much. Roy ducked his head and stepped inside. The alchemist shifted his duffel bag unto his other shoulder and looked around, studying his surroundings.
One exit, three possible escape routes, furnishing isn't bolted down. Assets of note are...
Old habits died hard.

It was a slightly familiar man. She didn't know who he was, but she had seen him over the network a couple times. Funny. She was usually good at keeping up with the network since it was just one more thing to read, but ever since Nanako had arrived she actually found herself spending less time immersed in books, and more time conversing with the other girl.
She remained where she was, watching the two adults and then looked back at Nanako, waving her over. "Do you know who that is?" she whispered.

She took a glance at the rigid man, wondering what he was like. He had such a stern expression. "I think he's the person that's gonna stay with us."
Reply
"Coffee? Tea? We don't have much right now, but it should do for the time being."
It would be an effort, he knew, treating the man as something other than a guest. How long had it taken with Souji? But then, he hadn't known Souji beforehand back then.

Roy pulled himself away from his observations, and turned to look at Dojima again. The man was supposed to have children staying with him, but the alchemist wasn't sure if he should ask about them yet.

"He's got an eyepatch. Like a pirate." she couldn't help but smile a little at that, though she at least had the grace not to laugh. Of course she knew he wasn't one--the rest of his clothes didn't fit it, but it still seemed to stand out to her.

Nanako didn't think he was a pirate either, but she went along with it anyway. Besides, you never really know...

"Nanako, Matilda," he called, half-hidden behind a cupboard door, the awkward air about his shoulders lessened, if only by a small bit. "Did you want coffee as well?"
It was one way of breaking the ice.

...When Dojima called out for the others, however, that pretty much tied up what he had been contemplating on asking. The alchemist perked up, briefly looking towards his new partner before trying to figure out where the girls were going to come from.

She waited a little, and when it seemed like not, she gave Nanako and glance and began to step out and head towards where the kitchen was.
Coffee. She'd never had it before, but it had never really held much appeal to her.
"No thank you." she said before her eyes trailed over to Mustang, curious to be looking at him up close.

"I'm Nanako."

Maybe, just maybe, it would be enough to put Mustang at ease.

The alchemist smiled, first at the girl who lingered in the background, then at the child in front of him.
"Hi. My name's Roy."
He crouched down to her height, and held out his hand for a shake. One thing he knew about kids was that they hated being treated LIKE kids, so...

It was still a little difficult for her to be at complete ease with adults. So far everyone she had met here had been very kind to her which was a little overwhelming, but old habits died hard and there still always remained a tinge of apprehension when it came to anyone past their teens.
She stepped forward a little "I'm Matilda."

Taking a few steps away, keeping her hands hiding behind her back, she spoke to Roy as polite as she could be, "I'm...gonna go help my dad. Matilda, do you want to come?"
