They were alike in that respect, at the very least. There was very little to actually move between the two buildings, a great majority of that being clothing, and the few cooking utensils acquired over the weeks. It was more in making certain the girls were settled into the place first, in taking stock of what was available and making those plans to make up for whatever may have been lacking (more clothing for the kids, for one, food for another). Every-day things. Almost like home. Almost.

He hardly needed to ask who it was at the door (the possibilities were few enough as it were, and all the better under current circumstances). The voice calling out only confirmed his guesses.

"Just on time," he said by way of greeting, once the door was opened. It was accompanied by something of a smile, that faint quirk of lips.

The smile was a little... disarming? Not entirely expected. Or was it?

Clearly, he was thinking about everything too much. Roy ducked his head and stepped inside. The alchemist shifted his duffel bag unto his other shoulder and looked around, studying his surroundings.

One exit, three possible escape routes, furnishing isn't bolted down. Assets of note are...

Old habits died hard.

Matilda hard the door being opened, and as always curiosity got the better of her. She was in the other room with Nanako, and she peeked out head out the door to see who it was.

It was a slightly familiar man. She didn't know who he was, but she had seen him over the network a couple times. Funny. She was usually good at keeping up with the network since it was just one more thing to read, but ever since Nanako had arrived she actually found herself spending less time immersed in books, and more time conversing with the other girl.

She remained where she was, watching the two adults and then looked back at Nanako, waving her over. "Do you know who that is?" she whispered.

The other girl quickly walked over to where Matilda was standing and peered at the stranger who was visiting. It was rare for her dad to invite anyone over (besides that one detective friend) so it was no surprise that Nanako was brimming with curiousity. However, she was almost certain she knew why this man was coming over. "I've never seen him before... "but I think he's one of dad's friends."

She took a glance at the rigid man, wondering what he was like. He had such a stern expression. "I think he's the person that's gonna stay with us."

Old habits that didn't quite escape the detective's notice. He took note of the roving eyes, where they landed, and even as he closed the door behind te other man, he could guess just what Roy was listing through. Certain occupations ingrained certain habits, tendencies, and routines in its men.

"Coffee? Tea? We don't have much right now, but it should do for the time being."

It would be an effort, he knew, treating the man as something other than a guest. How long had it taken with Souji? But then, he hadn't known Souji beforehand back then.

"Ah... coffee's good."

Roy pulled himself away from his observations, and turned to look at Dojima again. The man was supposed to have children staying with him, but the alchemist wasn't sure if he should ask about them yet.

Matilda listened to Nanako. So that meant this man was going to be Dojima's...partner? She still didn't entirely understand what the meant. She knew that there were Meisters and Weapons, but the significance of resonation or how exactly it happened went right over her head.

"He's got an eyepatch. Like a pirate." she couldn't help but smile a little at that, though she at least had the grace not to laugh. Of course she knew he wasn't one--the rest of his clothes didn't fit it, but it still seemed to stand out to her.

"I wonder what happened! I hope he's alright." Her little forehead wrinkles of worry were kind of cute. Seriously, however, she WAS worried. Hopefully, it wasn't a terrible injury.. "At least, he seems like a nice pirate so far."

Nanako didn't think he was a pirate either, but she went along with it anyway. Besides, you never really know...

There was something comforting about going through the old motions of making that coffee, preparation and set-up, setting out mugs and cups. The comforting memories attached to the movements, even to the aroma of the coffee grounds themselves. Family. Home.

"Nanako, Matilda," he called, half-hidden behind a cupboard door, the awkward air about his shoulders lessened, if only by a small bit. "Did you want coffee as well?"

It was one way of breaking the ice.

Roy politely turned his attentions away from Dojima as the man busied himself with the coffee and kitchen things - he figured that his Weapon probably didn't want someone breathing down his neck.

...When Dojima called out for the others, however, that pretty much tied up what he had been contemplating on asking. The alchemist perked up, briefly looking towards his new partner before trying to figure out where the girls were going to come from.

She jumped a bit when called out and duck behind the door again. Had he seemed them?

She waited a little, and when it seemed like not, she gave Nanako and glance and began to step out and head towards where the kitchen was.

Coffee. She'd never had it before, but it had never really held much appeal to her.

"No thank you." she said before her eyes trailed over to Mustang, curious to be looking at him up close.

"No, I'm okay." She called out to her father, trailing behind Matilda as they removed themselves from their hiding place. However, she stopped in front of Roy, looking up at him with a shy expression.

"I'm Nanako."

He smiled, as he set to getting those two mugs ready. The girls would handle it better without him trying to get things started. It would be an experience all around, at least.

Maybe, just maybe, it would be enough to put Mustang at ease.

Roy watched the pair approach, and later blinked at how one of them just sort of came right over and introduced herself. Likely Dojima's daughter, if he was getting his reading of his new partner's personality right.

The alchemist smiled, first at the girl who lingered in the background, then at the child in front of him.

"Hi. My name's Roy."

He crouched down to her height, and held out his hand for a shake. One thing he knew about kids was that they hated being treated LIKE kids, so...

She shyly smiled back at him.

It was still a little difficult for her to be at complete ease with adults. So far everyone she had met here had been very kind to her which was a little overwhelming, but old habits died hard and there still always remained a tinge of apprehension when it came to anyone past their teens.

She stepped forward a little "I'm Matilda."

Nanako looked at Matilda and then, at the hand that was being offered. Her dad always taught her to be polite, but if she had the choice, she'd leave the hand there. But since it was dad's friend, she quickly grabbed the hand and shook it once with a slight bow from her part, and quickly withdrew her hand once more.

Taking a few steps away, keeping her hands hiding behind her back, she spoke to Roy as polite as she could be, "I'm...gonna go help my dad. Matilda, do you want to come?"
