He gently rests a hand on top of Italy's head.]
Italia? [He's not sure if it's because Italy will miss living with Romano, or something else...]

[but it doesn't last] It's really hard here. Being human, not being able to feel our people...

We'll get back to them, Italia. [Light hairpet.] And you are not alone here, sí? You have your hermano, and Alemania, and Japón. [Small smile.] And me, too. We'll work together and get home soon.

But now, Japan is nearby, too, and Italy tilts his head a bit to look at his former ally. You can stay if you want, but]
It... [turns back to look at Spain] It's really hard for my brother here, I think.

Of course, Spain would still be getting used to the idea of being human. He, too, was still getting used to it, even having been here some time now. But he hadn't known, that Italy was having so hard a time, or Romano either.
If it was about Romano, it might be a private conversation. But Italy's look...was he inviting him to stay? He pauses, unsure (and not exactly able to get around them, anyway...)]

But when he returns his attention to Italy, he frowns again.]
He did seem even grumpier than usual... [Hesitates, here, because he's not sure if there's even a reason to be asking this, but he can't help but think--] Did something happen, Italia?

He nods and then moves a bit closer to Spain so that he can lower his voice]
He doesn't like Germany. He said really hurtful things!

And something that he needed to speak quietly, too. Then it really wasn't something he could abandon, now that he had been included.
But, wasn't it normal for Romano to dislike Germany? It seemed like it had always been that way...hadn't it?]

... [Hesitates again, but keeps his voice low, turning a bit to make sure Japan is included properly in the discussion.] What'd he say?

He asked me if I liked Germany. [a light blush] And I told him si, altro che! Germany is my partner, and close friend and... [and THAT. but anyway] Well. Then he asked me if I remembered I was Catholic.
........... [that should be self-explanatory enough, right?]

Well, there were some things he simply would probably never understand. Was there something about being Catholic that meant he shouldn't be friends with Germany?
...Then, would it be...?] ...Because Germany is... [What was the word? There were so many names for all of them and none of them ever really made sense...] Protestant?

He means... [Hands in front of himself, gesturing (hands moving as though trying to fan the words towards his mouth) as he pulled a face. After a silence, he finally exhaled again and gave up.] Eh... Many Catholics frown upon same-sex relationships.
Reply
...Oh.
He remembered that, the problems the Catholic missionaries had brought up at his house, before he'd barred them from visiting. As though being allowed to visit in the first place had been somehow an allowance for them to voice their complaints on issues that were unrelated to them.
...Oh.
...He hadn't ever realized Germany and Italy had that sort of relationship.
No, it wasn't that. He had, after all, noticed something was different about them. It had been the reason he had offered to share a room with Liechtenstein (besides that she was so adorable...). He just hadn't realized it was...that.
...It must be tied with being human. Everything was so different, with that. Regardless, they had always each been a good balance for the other.
Ah, then hearing that from Romano...]
Then that sort of relationship...I hadn't thought it was so unheard of. [Certainly, from some of Italy's art he had gotten the impression...]

He used something sacred against me. [mumbling, he is still glaring at the floor in disgust] It wasn't fair. Just because he hates Germany! He knows how religious I am!

What Romano did was wrong. Even if I agreed with him, he's your hermano. Your hermano mayor. It's his duty to take care of you, and he... [A frustrated noise, something to try and get out all of his thoughts and feelings on the situation. Though it hardly helped him, in the end.] Why does he hate Alemania so much?

Crouching down, Japan sits on his heels in front of Italy. At least it'ss a comfortable was to sit. Perhaps not so much as being all the way seated, but on a floor as dirty as an entryway... No, there was no any way he'd put anything but his feet on the floor here.]
