Lily has been spending her days exploring the city and unsuccessfully trying to find transportation out of this place. Even after a couple of months in San Francisco, she hadn’t gotten completely used to navigating that city. So, after only little more than a week in Death City, it’s not surprising that she’s sometimes finding herself a bit lost.

Dag nab it, where am I?

Today, she winds up near Death City Heights and is looking at the strange sign outside…

Sorry for the late! Latter half of this week was a disaster. XD thebestandwurst January 22 2012, 15:44:56 UTC
Germany takes a step out at that moment, to bring a plate of cake out and a pot of coffee. It was daytime, after all, and not everyone would take to beer while the sun was still so high in the sky.

He spotted the woman as he set the items down, and saluted smartly. "Good day. You are here to visit?"

It's okay! I'm still backlogged myself due to Chinese New Year stuff and sewing! magicandvintage January 24 2012, 07:24:16 UTC
Lily blinked at the unexpected salute. When she spoke, it was with a twang; although she left Texas more than a decade ago and spent years traveling the world, her accent has been stubborn and remained.

“To visit?” she repeated uncertainly. The man was a stranger so she wasn’t sure why he thought she might be coming for a visit. And having been shunned in her hometown for her abilities, it still seemed like a small miracle when she was invited into people’s homes.

“Actually, I was just looking around the city and got turned around.”

Happy lunar new year! thebestandwurst January 24 2012, 19:43:03 UTC
"I see," he replied in his usual stoic way. "It is my brother's birthday today, so we are giving away food and drink. Please have some; it would make him happy."

Too happy, actually. Germany didn't usually give his brother's wilder tendencies notice, but he figured it wouldn't hurt for today. Unfortunately, Germany didn't elaborate on what Preußen might do if he saw an actual guest among them. She'd know soon enough.

She smiled. “Well, that’s nice of y’all.”

Being an outcast in her hometown had meant a lack of party invitations, birthday or otherwise. It was kind of exciting finally being asked to celebrate someone’s birthday, even if she didn’t know the person in question.

“I don’t think we’ve met before. My name is Lily Ivory.”

"Well met, Miss Ivory." Formal as always, that was Germany. "My name is Germany." He paused, wondering if he should even bother explaining it, deciding to do so because he was obsessive-compulsive that way and such things like ease didn't really figure into his personality.

"I am the country. The anthropomorphic representation of it where I am from."

Lily blinked. “Anthro…what?” Did she misunderstand or did he just say he was a country?

She asked a bit uncertainly, “Your parents named you after a country?” Her travels had taken her to Germany although her memories of that country weren’t the best. It had been a remote Bavarian town where she had finally tracked down the male witch that was her father…

"Anthropomorphic representation," he repeated, and he would repeat it ten times more if she needed to hear it that often.

"I'm the--" Simple terms, simple terms. He had to use simple terms. It wasn't her fault if she couldn't understand what he meant, because this world was very unlike theirs and countries did not walk around without trousers on. "I am the spirit of the country, given human form. But I am not usually mortal."

ALSO LATE, ILU seizeyoursouls January 24 2012, 18:22:49 UTC
"Guess what, guess what? Oi, guess what?"

The country was just sitting there, staring at the lady who unfortunately decided to stop by that day.

"You're the one having the birthday, I reckon."

Since there didn't seem to be anyone else around who could be the brother... Lily couldn’t say for certain-she had been treated as an outcast by the people of her small west Texas hometown and had never received invitations to birthday parties-but didn’t birthday parties usually have more guests?

"Ja, ja! So! I'm ready!"

He stuck out his hand with no shame whatsoever.

Lily blinked. "Ready for what?" She didn't get much practice interacting with people while growing up and wasn't completely sure what people typically did at birthday parties.

"For my birthday present!"

Prussia didn't seem to recognize that what he was doing might have been considered inconsiderate, but at the same time, he probably wouldn't care even if he had known. There is definitely a reason why people have problems with this guy.

"Oh." People usually got presents for birthdays, didn't they? Was it normal for them to be this demanding about it though? And what to do? She was a bit fuzzy on etiquette for such a situation.

"I'm sorry. I don't get invited to many parties. And I just happened to be walking by when your brother invited me in."

"Oh. Okay."

SADFACE. Still, despite that, he holds out a plate of cake for her to take if she was inclined to take cake!
