Summary: The long-awaited investigation mission for the perfect Meister and Weapon.
It's been awhile since he felt the thrill of promise for a mission. Of leaving your village behind and navigating open territory fraught with potential enemies, relying only on yourself and your team to make it through everything and back home with a completed mission objective. That excitement tended to vanish after awhile- a feeling that only remained in inexperienced shinobi because missions are dangerous things and the veterans knew better than to look forward to them.
But after what feels like months of confinement in Death City, the familiar thrill sneaks up on him again; that restlessness that's left him distracted and longing for the horizon for weeks finally ready to be unlocked, like wings spread wide and ready to take off.
Shibusen's method of transportation remains daunting, however.
It's somehow almost anti-climactic to step through a mirror and be in a new place rather than take off from the gate and dive into a vast expanse of forest- or desert, as the case may be. It's more practical certainly, but there's a small measure of disappointment in his chest as he stands before it, looking back over their equipment and reading through their assignment.
It's not only their first solo mission together, but one that's perfectly suited for their skillset, and important-sounding to boot. It probably has something to do with his eagerness to go- to be gone- and he glances down at his Weapon with an unusual spark of impatience.
"About ready to go, Lain?"
