a day for you and me [closed]

Characters: Allen Walker and Howard Link
Location: The walk home, then Allen and Link's apartment.
Rating: G.
Time: Christmas, early afternoon.

Description: Allen's birthday has involved a fair amount of training and church time as well as a bit of shopping -- and Allen has yet to realize that a birthday celebration is indeed in the making.

[ Allen had not been given the benefit of one day out of the year to sleep in -- not on Link's watch. At 5am he was rolled quite literally out of bed for breakfast before being instructed to put on his Sunday best; they had mass to go to, after all. They'd spent a whole 2 hours in church including some private prayer before Link had immediately dragged him to one of the only shops open in town to pick up the last of the ingredients needed for dinner.

Not that he didn't have almost everything he needed already -- but there was something oddly enjoyable about leaving the last of a few random ingredients for Allen's favorite dishes to be pulled off the shelves by Allen himself without him even realizing what it was for. It was a simple pleasure for Link, and a good way for them to keep busy on a day the Exorcist tended to become more than a little withdrawn.

They are finally on their way back home with bags in hand, Link absently tugging his scarf up higher over his mouth. His breath hangs in the chill of the air as he speaks. ]

Did I not remind you to bring a hat before we left? I will not be responsible for dispensing care should you catch a cold due to your own negligence.

[ He's not really sure when he went from silent observer to nagging mother hen in the time they've known each other; frankly, he's scarcely aware of it. ]
