Characters: Sora, Sarutobi Sasuke Location: A street in the Red Light District Rating: PG. Time: December 26, late afternoon Description: While on his aimless adventures, Sora finds a Ninja. Or... a Ninja finds Sora.
Sora was still not quite over Christmas. It was only yesterday, after all. So he had spent most of the day still jittery and excited, and found after a few hours he just couldn't stay still in the house (the new puppy having provided a number of hours of amusement already and was now itself tired and asleep on Riku's shoes). He had taken it upon himself to investigate his new neighbourhood instead, as a means partly of getting out of the house and partly of getting some fresh air.
Results so far had been interesting. A number of people stumbling around the place smelling of urine and grinning innanely had raised Sora's curiosity level slightly higher than it normally was, but he didn't bother to do much more than wave at a few of them.
It was around three or four blocks from his home that he heard a loud crash, followed swiftly by what sounded like a person making a loud noise. Rescue senses tingling, Sora picked up the pace and headed to where he thought the sound had come from. The safest thing to do, of course, being to enter the alley alone to investigate the mystery without having told his friends where he was off to that afternoon.
Seeing the body lying among garbage cans in the snow, he moved in closer to help, calling out as he did so; "Are you ok!?"
Great. Not only had he managed to make an ass of himself, Sasuke had done so in broad daylight with plenty of people around to witness it. Or at least one had, in any case, as he heard a male voice call out in concern. He might've preferred it if he had simply gone unnoticed, though. His pride might hurt slightly less than his side currently did.
"Uggghhh." He groaned, only partially in pain, but far moreso at the notion that someone was about to witness him sprawled in an undignified heap in the middle of a dark alley in a place that is clearly of questionable repute. Should have kept my eyes on the ledge in front of me...
"I'm... fine...!" he called back in return, though his voice was quite obviously constricted by pain. While armoured and skilled enough to effectively break a fall, falling from buildings was not generally a pleasant experience. He was hoping whoever it was he was talking to would simply keep walking, though, and spare him the embarrassment.
He definitely didn't recognise the fall victim up close. But then, that wasn't surprising, Sora didn't know many people in his city, and he was constantly making new friends, and aquaintences. He only briefly wondered how this person had managed to get from the roof to the ground, and why exactly they had been on the roof in the first place. It seemed like a secondary concern to finding out if this guy was even capable of getting up and walking around without help. He certainly seemed alive at this stage which was a good sign.
He peered in closer so he could get a better view at whatever injury was ailing this man. "You don't sound fine," was Sora's well researched medical opinion. "Can you stand up?" He offered him a hand, just in case the answer was no, or even if it was yes, it never hurt to be helpful. Internally he cursed his inability to simply heal people at will, coming to this world had apparently taken that away as well as the full use of his keyblade.
Fate clearly wasn't on Sasuke's side. That voice was definitely nearer, rather than further away. Maybe if-
Damn it. He managed to uncurl himself somewhat so that he resembled a ball of pain and embarrassment sunken into a mess of snow and disgorged trash slightly less, and looked up. Clearly, it was too much to ask to avoid adding insult to injury. At least the concern was touching, the kid looked visibly concerned. Hopefully not too distressed. That would just make things even worse, if possible.
"Yeah, just... give me a sec..." he rasped. He planted one leg firmly beneath him and attempted to lever himself to his feet, at which point he immediately clutched at his side and swayed into the wall beside him. At the very least, once he slumped against it he managed to keep himself mostly upright, albeit at a slightly awkward angle.
"See? All fine. I'm jus-"
Sasuke paused, and stared at the adolescent boy blankly for a brief moment, as it sank in who he was talking to.
"What are you doing here?" he asked flatly, wondering why on Earth this kid was in the Red Light District, of all places. And perhaps privately hoping to deflect any suspicion on why he himself was there.
Watching on with obvious concern as the man barely lifted himself from the ground to stand uncomfortably against the wall, Sora's hand tried to reach out to help steady him. That this guy could have been a psycho didn't really occur to Sora, who liked to think the best of most people, especially those he didn't actually know.
About to reply that they really should look at taking him to a hospital, Sora stopped, mouth open, and changed his response at the last second. "What do you mean?" he blinked, of all the reactions after standing up, that was probably the last one he had considered would occur for this man to ask. "I was just walking around. Helping people falling off roof tops, that sort of thing." Despite the injury still being his top concern, Sora managed a small grin at his own obvious joke.
"You do that sort of thing often?" Sasuke asked dryly, wincing slightly as he shifted his weight somewhat more comfortable. Or, at least, relatively more comfortably. It wasn't until he looked up and caught a proper glimpse of the boy's face that he realized that he wasn't being smart with him or otherwise defensive. He just seemed... friendly. Definitely not typical behaviour of an adolescent guilty of lurking somewhere he shouldn't be.
For the most part, the shinobi was a rather sharp judge of character. It was something that came with the job. It baffled him to notice that the adolescent in front of him was either utilizing an elaborate ploy, or he really didn't have a sarcastic bone in his body - his expression and demeanour wasn't so much an open book as it was a beaming neon sign.
Sasuke needed a second to wrap his head around that. And catch his breath, while he was at that.
"...Right," he said finally, blinking, before continuing, "It's just you don't usually see teenagers walking around districts like this... I think..." Maybe this was normal? There was still a lot about the culture that he wasn't quite familiar with. Was it customary for people like his new acquaintance to wander around areas reserved for- no, not likely. Or at least he hoped not. It meant he had been clearly missing out. He also had to wonder if the youth even knew what sort of place he was currently in. Sasuke had far more of an inkling, given what had distracted him.
Still confused, Sora's face showed as much quite clearly. His brows knotted into a neat little frown and he twisted his mouth into a thinking expression. "What do you mean 'districts like this'?" What was wrong with this one, exactly? Apart from the weird smells and the staggering people at this time of the afternoon, that was. A little unusual perhaps but nothing too bad to worry about, was it?
He firmly believed that Riku wouldn't have let them move to a 'bad neighborhood', it just wouldn't have been safe. And Riku was primarily concerned with the safety of his two best friends. Sora was pretty sure, at any rate.
What was beginning to concern him though, was the other mans state of injury, and despite whatever it was he was worried about to do with this area, they really needed to deal with that other problem first. Sora would never have forgiven himself if he let this man suffer for longer than absolutely necessary. "We need to get you to the medical clinic." He tried again, with a little bit more authority.
