Ugh. Clearly it had been a mistake to allow Dante into his apartment the first time. Despite what he will claim to be his own temporary insanity of the day before, he hadn't exactly given wholehearted permission for his brother to come bother him whenever he felt like it. In fact, despite the apparent season, Vergil was very disinterested in seeing others. He hadn't celebrated Christmas even once since he stopped considering himself human, and given recent events he wasn't overly inclined to start now.

Of course, what Vergil wanted and what Vergil got were becoming more and more distant the longer he was in Death City.

He also didn't have much of a choice, so he reluctantly dragged himself to the front door and swung it open, looking altogether none-too-pleased. Then again, that wasn't overly different from his default expression when dealing with Dante.

"..."

There was a very long pause from Vergil. It could've been disbelief, or it could have been in silent disdain. By some tiny margin of chance, it could have been the pudding. But far more likely, given the direction of his gaze, it could have had something to do with the dark-haired girl with heterochromic eyes that Dante had brought with him.

"What." The single word spoke volumes.

Dante waved an arm at Lady in a vague gesture that should have meant that he had things under control, but was more likely that the message behind it was a lie and it was better of interpreting it as just a random gesture.

And then Vergil opened the door and Dante drew his attention to his brother before smiling brightly at him. "Merry Christmas."

Even Dante knew this was unlikely to end well, but he cared enough to make the attempt anyway. These were the two most important (living) people to Dante from his world and he was supposed to be estranged permanently from one of them. Coupled with today's date meant that there was damn well going to be an attempt at a proper Christmas by him.

Lady just glanced away from Vergil's gaze, pursing her lips and crossing her arms over her chest.

"It wasn't my idea," she muttered, as if that were some kind of weird apology. This very idea made her uncomfortable; she just had a really hard time saying no to his brother.

Better to just be as civil as possible and get this over with. She wondered, idly, how possible it was that this wouldn't end in bloodshed on someone's part.
