Heaving a sigh, Gintoki flipped the page of the magazine he was reading. Considering that Christmas Eve was literally right around the corner, every second page was some form of advertising, designed to lure in naive parents and anybody with any sort of relation to a child old enough to walk over to you and throw a toy catalogue into your face. Society was doomed, Gintoki decided, doomed to spend the rest of their lives spending money on overpriced toys that break as soon as your kid rips the box open.

He was about to toss the magazine over his shoulder when the door opened without so much as a knock. The only person who tended to do that was Dante, and so the offhanded comment came without Gintoki having to look up.

"I ate the rest of your pizza, by the way."

When the storm he was expecting didn't come was when Gintoki cast his gaze upward. And then he rose to his feet abruptly, his chair rolling backwards to hit the wall behind his desk. A customer? No. Someone likely far better.

Motherfucking Lady.

"Well, if you hadn't eaten it, I would have."

Pizza didn't sound so bad after the weird fare she'd had to deal with in Europe. Good ol' American Cuisine sounded pretty damn good at the moment.

She strolled up to the desk, half standing and half leaning against the corner of the heavy piece of furniture. That was a pretty good reaction on his part; she could get used to it.

"I take it that means Dante isn't here?"

She raised her eyebrows expectantly.

"N-No." Was he stuttering? With a cough, Gintoki tried again. "No. He's taking a bit of a break. I'm his employer." If Dante were to catch wind of that, things would likely get broken. Hopefully, those things wouldn't be bones.

"Can I take a message?"

She just blinked once or twice at him. What the hell, couldn't he speak properly?

"Taking a break, I'll believe. But considering half of his shop's name is plastered outside, I have a hard time with the part about you being the boss." Dante didn't exactly take kindly to 'authority.'

"Nope," she said, pushing away from the desk to flop into one of the chairs. "I'll just wait."
