Basketball Court dwells_ondreams September 18 2011, 06:28:26 UTC
Harry hadn't really ever been good at sports when he lived at his Muggle home, but with the loss of Quiddich, he felt the need to do something active and had wandered to the basketball court that day.

He spotted Clare when he arrived there and watched her quietly for a moment, not really sure if she wanted to be disturbed. But there didn't seem any harm in it, so he approached her and raised a hand in a wave.

"Hello there."

Harry blinked a bit, giving a glance behind him to see if something startling was going on that was causing her to act so strange. But no, it was just him here. He looked back to Clare and shook his head a little, feeling awkward now.

"No, it's okay... I didn't mean to disturb you," he gave a little gesture to the hoop, his gaze falling to the ball that had gone so far from it, "I just... it's easier to play with someone else sometimes."

He felt silly now, thinking it sounded lame the way it came out.

Harry watched her shot, raising his eyebrows a little, impressed. Looking back to her, he gave a little nod of his head, "I'm Harry. Nice to meet you."

"And, ah, you don't really have to worry, I can't do any of those things either," he gave a little chuckle, shrugging helplessly, "I don't really play at all. I mean, I know how the game works, but I've never been good at it."

She still seemed nervous to him, but he decided to chalk it up to the nerves everyone had in this place, especially upon arrival.

"Are you new here too?"

Harry looked over at the hoop, thinking a little on what she said about the physics of the game. He'd never really thought of things that way, not with Quiddich at least. There was strategy, of course, he had to have a handle on that as the captain, but playing the game itself had somehow become a thing of second nature to him.

Looking back to her, he gave a half-nod, half shrug, "Well, yes, in a way. I mean, I've never traveled to a different world altogether, but I lived most of my life in one place and then had to adjust to a new place after that. Have you?"

He smiled a little, watching her and remembering how boring he had found life before going to Hogwarts and finding out who he really was. Day after day, wishing for something more, wishing for something extraordinary to happen. And with the good and the bad, it had.

Stepping over to where the ball had landed, Harry stooped to pick it up, rolling it over in his hands, "I guess anything can happen when you least expect it. Like, yeah, coming here. It's strange even for me."

He made a face after he spoke, hoping that it didn't sound pretentious.
