Germany was walking the petstore dogs as usual, thinking about the layout and design of the building for Bumblebee. Ever since he had given up the coordination of morning training, owing to his broken arm (still in a cast, but no longer slung up to his chest), Germany had been occupying himself more and more with the city's infrastructure and design. He was a good engineer and architect in the form of one country, and it gave him pleasure to work on these problems even in such ridiculous circumstances like being human.

Today, he was walking a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd, and he was going through the park. He was lost in thought when both dogs took interest in a young girl off to the side. They didn't tug or wander off, but they did walk while staring at her, ears perked. Germany glanced at the stranger and tilted his head. "Good afternoon," he greeted politely. "Why are you staring at the trees?"

Helga jumped at the sound of the voice, she'd been so focused on finding a tree that was symmetrical that she hadn't noticed the man and his two dogs approach her.

"Um hey! I want to build a tree house. I got permission and everything. The tree house has to be symmetrical though, so does the tree I suppose."

Helga took a moment to let the dogs sniff her hands before scratching them behind the ears, she doesn't have a pet of her own but she likes them well enough.
"Nice dogs."

"A symmetrical treehouse?" Germany looked up at the tree -- decidedly not symmetrical at all -- and thoughtfully back at the dogs. They were friendly enough creatures, well-trained (he trained them, after all), and obedient. They wagged their tails in pleasure at the attention, since Germany wasn't often very affectionate with them.

"Do you already have a design in mind? I could make a design for you, if you do not mind the imposition," he added, because he wasn't very sure about letting underaged young girls build treehouses without proper supervision.

Helga nods excitedly and then remembering herself focuses on the dogs for a minute before saying, "Sure, I could do with the help, I was wondering how I could get people involved. I'm new here and don't know much about putting out messages on the system." Still scratching the dogs Helga continues, "I got permission from Death the Kid and to thank him said the tree house would be symmetrical, what with him being all coo-coo crazy about symmetry and all."

Straightening Helga turned to peer at the trees. "They don't look very symmetrical though and I'm not sure if I should just find a suitable tree first and then worry about that stuff later."

"You merely need to ask on the network, and people will volunteer," Germany said with a nod, looking back up at the trees. Symmetrical trees... Did that child have no logic at all? None at all, none whatsoever!

"Death the Kid is too obsessed with symmetry. However, I do not think you will find symmetrical trees here, unless you were to plant pine trees yourself. However, if you choose a pair of trees that are perhaps angled together enough..." What did Kid like again? Sets of two, correct? Or was it eight... No, eight was ridiculous.

"Okay so we can't have symmetrical trees...what about symmetrical houses?" Helga tilts her head and looks up at the man enquiringly, he seems to know what he was talking about and Helga wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. "Could a symmetrical house be designed...he'd probably bitch and moan about the tree not being symmetrical but at least he couldn't complain about the house."

Sorry for the late, my weekends are a black hole of activity. thebestandwurst September 11 2011, 23:34:35 UTC
"The symmetrical treehouse would be easy enough," Germany nodded, wrapping the dogs' leashes around his wrist to pull out a small notebook from his pocket. And a pencil. "For how many people did you want this treehouse to serve at any given time?"

It would be simple enough to make a preliminary design to show the girl. Even with the trees in the way, it would only be a matter of locating the wood around properly. First, Germany drew the trees (in all rigid angles, naturally).

"I was thinking it would have to be big enough for ten people, but then I got to thinking maybe we could build lots of tree houses and join them with bridges, it would be a tree fort!"

Helga throws her arms out in excitement spinning on one foot as she does so, this could be the best thing she's ever done...ignoring the other awesome things she does on a regular basis!

"You think they will mind if we expand it like that?"

Oh, that was an idea. Germany generally approved of anything fort, even if it was Preußen's ridiculous pillow fort.

"I believe that's a very good idea. If every treehouse can contain five to ten people, in a siege, if we have twenty of them, we could hold our ground." Although naturally, his thinking was militaristic in nature, so he could only really see the idea for that... "And no, I do not think they will mind at all."

"Fabulous my German friend...you are German aren't you? I once had a German nanny and she had a similar accent only more girly."

Helga could sense that her companion was becoming just as excited by the tree fort as she was, that was the spirit, the more people she could get excited the better this thing was going to be.

"I can put a message out with the doohickey they gave me, see if anyone else wants to get involved."

Doohickey? Absently, Germany nodded at the question, and remembered to introduce himself. "Yes, my name is Germany. And you are?" As a country, Germany wasn't used to needing to really know people's names -- usually he just had his citizens, or his bosses, or the other countries... This one was clearly Amerika's; that was too bad, Germany would have liked to teach her the basics of architecture if she had been his. As it was, he wasn't certain of the capacity of Amerika's citizens to toe his way around.

"What is a doohickey?"

"A doohickey is a whatsamacallit, a thingy...um...thingamabob?"

Helga frowns unsure of how to answer the question, it occurs to her that perhaps he was asking what she meant by doohickey and she nods to herself before pulling the communicator out of her pocket.

"This thing." She holds it out to Germany allowing him to see the doohickey, she's forgotten what they call him, mostly because she wasn't listening, she was too busy looking for Ar...that guy she knows.

"Your name is Germany and you're German...criminey your parents really wanted to nail the national pride thing didn't they?"

"Ah, a Dingsbums," he said, finally able to translate it into German. English was such a complicated language... "But that is the communicator," Germany added, looking at the girl's device. "Or a mobile phone, if that is simpler."

How to answer that question... "No, I am Germany, the country. The anthromophication of it," he clarified in case he was accused of being insane yet again. That happened often enough.

Helga froze, clearly she was speaking to a mad man. She'd met some pretty crazy people so far but human countries were new even for her.
"Oh...that's different."

He knew that look. It was a look that he'd had to get used to here. It meant that the other person thought he was insane, which Germany thankfully was not actually very much so.

"I speak the truth," he said gravely. "It may be difficult for you to comprehend, but in our world, all the nations have anthropomorphications that are tied to their land."
