The voice only sounds slightly light-hearted; it’s flat and almost toneless, and belongs to a man sitting on a computer chair that’s been clearly mutilated to match the man’s face - zigzag stitches lacing through the fabric and down his cheek. The same stitches were embroidered into his labcoat, which hung down as he leaned over the chair’s back, examining the newcomers as they wandered in with flashing glasses and an almost sick curious expression.
“My name is Stein; I am one of the teachers at Shibusen.” He ponders “teacher” for a moment; that would imply classes were happening. “You’ve heard it all from the others; you’re now in Death City, brought by BREW to help us in our fight, your souls converted into either a meister or a weapon. What this means for you: you can either become a weapon or wield a weapon.” He shrugs. “It’s fairly simple.”
He waves a hand at the collected group behind him. “Our job is to tell you which one you are. The people collected here have the ability Soul Perception: this means we can see your soul. You’ll simply have to raise your hand and ask.”
His glasses flash and he rests his chin on his arms, folded over the top of the chair; cocking his head, one of the hands falls down and jerks a thumb towards a machine nearby. “Of course, you could always use the x-ray machine, if for some reason the idea makes you squeamish. Rest assured it can’t and won’t stop any of us from looking at your soul.” He smiles wide, like he’s trying to be friendly. It really just looks terrifying. “In fact, it’s very likely we’ll look anyways.”
The hand swings up again, lightly touching the head of the screw through his skull. Slowly, he starts to turn it, his half-lidded eyes looking over the assembled group in front of him. “Well. Come on, then.” Another odd flash of light over his glasses; only one eye seems to be visible in the glare. Strange, huh? “Aren’t you curious?”

With a mumble, she raised her hand. "Um, can anyone tell me if I'm a meister or a weapon?"
