His first official Watch patrol is over, and considering there is nothing like giving oneself a good pat on the back for a day's hard work, Gintoki decides to spoil himself a little with a drink. He doesn't usually get the chance nor funds to be able to buy himself classy cocktails, so hey, once is okay, right? Or maybe he'd go for something a little more hard-boiled. Whiskey? Why not? Beats cheap beer, right?

Upon setting foot into the bar, Gintoki feels a sense of nostalgia in the way night life is apparent in Death City. Reminds him of home. What sets the bar apart however, is the fact that Roy Mustang appears to be seated at the counter. You sure as hell don't see that in Edo.

Striding over, Gintoki takes a seat one chair away from Roy's position.

"Yo."

"Gintoki."

Roy blinked, pleasantly surprised to see the silver-haired man coming around. He smiled, though, and turned back to his drink.

"Back from patrol, I take it."

When the bartender came around, Gintoki fished around in his kimono for his wallet before he withdrew it. After ordering his whiskey, and slipping the bartender a few notes, he turned back to Roy.

"Yeah, met up with Zura while I was at it. Didn't think he'd find me so soon."

"Was he surprised?"

Roy quietly made a note to make sure Gintoki's next drink was on him. It was only right, given the fact that he was probably going to ask some things that the silver-haired samurai would not be comfortable with later...

"For about half a second. The guy has the stupidest ability to work himself up over the all the wrong things." Gintoki fell silent went the bartender returned with his drink and wasting no time, he lifted the glass to his lips and took a swig.

Oho, the pricier stuff hits the spot. Every time.

"So how's that vacation treating you? Didn't think you'd have to come all the way out here for a drink. I would've thought you'd have a bottle stashed in your top draw at the office." A rather hefty accusation there, but its effect was hopefully dulled by the serene smile on Gintoki's face.

"I needed a change of scene. Besides, drinking alone in one's office isn't any fun."

Not that it kept him from doing just that when he had to, but well...

"And I've been fine, I guess. Yourself?"

"Too many things to think about huh? S'what happens when you're a big shot."

Gintoki swirled his cup around, watching the golden liquid lap at the ice. It was almost calming, though from what exactly, he couldn't identify. He would have chalked it up to the effects of the alcohol, but Gintoki wasn't so much of a lightweight.

"I'm getting by. Though how can you be just 'fine'? You're on a vacation, and you don't have any drunken stories you can tell me? I know I've got a few."

"Drunken stories might be a little hard, since I'm a bit out of practice with getting plastered."

Scratch that: he couldn't afford to be. Relaxing was something Roy also did in increments.

Gintoki sighed rather dejectedly, though it was packed to the brim with melodrama, "You working guys are all the same. Then again, I guess that's how the world maintains balance; there are those who work hard, and those who hardly work."

"Where do you fall under?"

Roy could guess, but well.

Gintoki took that chance to raise his arms above his head for a decent stretch.

"I don't even think that needs to be said. Still, keep an extra glass stashed in the draw with the booze and call me if you need someone to drink with. You might not have stories to tell, but I lived above a bar back home."

Not saying Roy had to, of course, but the invitation was there should the need for it ever arise. More than anybody else, it was the hard workers who needed a break the most.

"I might just take you up on that."

It was... nice, knowing that he had people he could call on, if he needed some down time. Oh, but before all of that.

"Mind if I ask you something, Gintoki?"

Gintoki was sucking down the last of his whiskey when Roy's question came around, and he gave the other man a rather curious look.

"I could be one of those immature guys and say you already did, but we'll skip that playground argument. Fire away."

"Katsura isn't the only person from your world who's on my team, right? There's another one... a boy named Takasugi."

A beat, as he considered his words.

"How well do you know him?"

There was a moment of silence as Gintoki tilted his glass back and forth, letting the ice roll inside its cage. He knew this Takasugi, the one back home however...

"Inside and out. Why d'you ask?"

A question asked for the sake of asking; Gintoki felt he already knew why.

"I've caught his exchanges with Okita Sougo twice over." Once on the network; once on the field. "I don't trust Sougo all that much, but I he doesn't look like the sort that would lie about things either."

Takasugi himself hadn't approached Roy. That was probably why he was feeling things out.
