Yousuke found a corner, stood by it casually with glass in hand. He wasn't here so much for the meal as he was for the chance to meet the other Outsiders. After all, he'd signed the contract. It was time to really get to know who he was fighting with. An atmosphere this relaxing and open to all was a good to place to start.

Still: business didn't stop him from taking pleasure in the offered repast. Yousuke had almost forgotten what human food was like, owing to his stay in the spirit world and the suppression of his old life's memories while there. Didi and Magyar had done a great job, and he made sure they knew it.

Meanwhile his eyes roved over the gathered partygoers, not fixing on anyone in particular. Yet.

Winry had been hard at work on trying to create Edward's automail with insufficient tools. Not to mention trying to find some other means of communication aside from the PDA.

She was surprised by the amount of food upon entering. It was even more than they had shown!

She took her time in filling her plate, before looking around for a place to sit. All the chairs were taken for now, and she was half considering going back to her room when she spotted Yousuke in the corner. Always one mindful of wallflowers, she made her way to him.

"Mind if I join you?"

Yousuke's taciturn features lit up with a welcome smile. "Sure thing." He stepped aside and gave her access to the open window sill, where she could set her plate down. He noticed what she'd put into her meal and the smile brightened.

"DiDi and Magyar've outdone themselves. Those sausages are especially good.", he recommended, having tried a bit of everything a few minutes ago.

((OOC: Hungarian, I'm guessing. =d))

She returned the smile. It was hard to find genuine smiles these days. Not that Winry could blame anyone, what with everything that had been happening, but it was still nice to find someone who managed to smile through it all.

"Thank you," She set her plate on the sill so politely provided and looked at the aforementioned sausages. They did look good. She picked one up and nibbles on it a bit before taking a bite.

"Mmm. They are!" It was very different from what she was use to, but definitely a good different.

She set her fork down for a moment before extending a hand "I don't think I've seen you around before. I'm Winry. Are you a recent arrival?"

"Pretty much; I've been here over a week now." He shook the offered hand, a firm but genial gesture. "Name's Yousuke. Good to meet you, Winry." Why not? She seemed a friendly and bubbly young lady. A nice kind of person to meet in a city that'd so far been living up to its name.

When he withdrew his hand, he used it to wave off a crow that'd landed and eyed Winry's plate. These birds had been following him everywhere since his arrival. "Apart from the things that've been going down, I've had a fine stay so far. We Outsiders seem to be a particularly close-knit bunch, and I'm glad for that."

She gave a grateful nod when he shooed away the crow.

They were, weren't they? In a manner of speaking. Winry still tended to hold people at arm's length, but given the short time she had been here, she had forged friendships with quite a number of people. Miranda, China, Hungary. Many others. Moreso she saw who well others came together. Of course there were exceptions when it came to people like Rhode and the homcunculi, but all in all it was a rather amazing thing.

"S'true what they said about common hardships strengthening bonds, it seems. We aren't left with too much of a choice if we want to survive in this place. Given the worlds some people come from, they couldn't even begin to comprehend some of the things that exist here." As different as this place was from her world, it wasn't unimaginable. She would hate to be one of those from so far in the past.

"This place similar at all to yours?"

Yousuke took a sip of punch, regarded Winry over the rim of his glass. "It's pretty different. Where I'm from, technology's the dominant force. Things like magic and the spirit world are seen as outdated superstition when in fact they're not. It's very much unlike here, where it's embraced." The Karas found it remarkable how a shinigami schoolmaster and people turning into weapons were accepted facts of life.

He looked to the grinning moon hanging in the night sky. "I'm not quite used to it yet, personal experiences aside. But if there's one thing Tokyo and Death City do have in common, it's the danger. That's something I'm used to."

Yousuke met Winry's eyes. "And you?"
