Description: Mission times.
They had set out immediately after training - neither of them were the sort who wished to waste time when there was a mission to do. Takasugi, at least, had been in high spirits about the entire outing: he wanted to get stronger as soon as he could, and since Okita had given his blessing, he had decided to ask Katsura to accompany him as his Meister. That Katsura had agreed had also pleased him - friends as they were, he still felt rather insecure about the age gap that now stood between them, and the breadth of experience Katsura surely had over him. He would have understood perfectly if the other had chosen to decline.
Upon their arrival in the area, however, upon seeing the shattered remains of the village that they now stood in, Takasugi's mood immediately spiraled down for the worse. The boy went quiet as they stepped out, looking at everything around him: the burned out husks of buildings, the people drifting through the ruins like ghosts, the charred corpses.
He moved forward, to what might have been a school - it was surrounded by weeping children, after all, and some shaken adults who were attempting to console them. Suffice to say, the sight struck a little too close to home for him.
Monsters existed no matter where one was, it seemed.
