Characters: Rinzler and Roy Location: Watch HQ Rating: G, probably Time: November 24, 12:15 Description: Roy asked Rinzler to come and see him to have a discussion.
Lmao, new thread. Scrolling too far to one side irks me. XDthewarisoverJune 26 2011, 10:37:16 UTC
"Really?"
That was... interesting. If trees didn't exist, plants likely didn't either. Given their primary function in any basic ecosystem, that had some interesting implications on what sort of world Rinzler came from.
"Well, since there's a lot that isn't familiar to you, can you give me examples of what MIGHT be something you'd see back in your world?"
xD I can understand that.glitchycatJune 26 2011, 19:54:50 UTC
It was a little early for him to understand all of the similarities - Rinzler knew that much. There were a few things he had noticed so far though.
We have drinking glasses, buildings, light cycles, data access panels (though ours are much more advanced), umbrellas, furniture, and lights, though our rooms are lit from the floor, not the ceiling, and do not require a switch to trigger.
Maybe there was more than that, or perhaps that was all there was.
From that list, that meant there were a few similarities to consider at the very least. It sounded like a world that was contained in some kind of internal system.
To be honest, Roy had a difficult time imagining it.
"And so far, everything else is alien to you? Even the celestial bodies and the atmosphere, I take it."
Rinzler nodded his head. It wasn't entirely true, but the generalization was close enough. He decided to explain further.
We do not have a sun or moon. If they all look like these, it is for the best. Rikku said that you have rain as well. Our simulations have grown in power over time to produce rain as well. Everything else is alien so far. The similarities are few.
Was that so? Rinzler studied him for a second. He had no doubt the man could hold his own in a fight, but it would be a bad idea.
My world is dangerous for Users. It is better you do not know.
He was one of the few Users whose company Rinzler enjoyed so far. Providing the warning was a sign of a small amount of respect, and his rumble changed pitch to show it.
Hum. Rinzler had made a strange distinction when he had first posted to the network. Come to think of it, there were a lot of things that seemed to indicate that his world was some sort of computer or machine-run place.
Users are not welcome. The User who created our system tyrannized us, betrayed us, and fell short of his own goals. If we find him, we will derezz him for what he did. My Master is the system administrator. If he does not tolerate the imperfections of Users in the Grid, then none of us will.
Though there were two of them now. Rinzler's left fist clenched slightly. The boy had gotten away; it was his fault, his mistake, and one that he was sure CLU would make him pay for upon his return to the Grid. He was imperfect, and deserved to be punished.
Rinzler's quiet for a moment, the rumbling sound becomes louder then softer then louder again as he ponders whether or not to admit a fault to Roy.
Something in my programming seems to prevent me from harming Users. It would also be counter-productive. I do not want to end up being punished here when I could do other things instead. I have no authority to apply rules pertaining to Grid justice to the Users here. That is not my function. My function is to maintain order by following orders.
Rinzler didn't even have to think about it, really. He had all faith that his master would come.
I will go to him as soon as I know, and I will help him adjust to the User world, as others have helped me. I will explain the situation to him, and request his permission to remain on the watch.
Rinzler pauses for a moment, thinking. Roy's a User, but he's useful, like Rikku, Yako, Zelos, and Jade.
I will tell him that you have shown me kindness and that you are useful, so he will understand that you are important here.
Roy put out his cigarette. He didn't speak immediately; he'd rather light up another one first.
"I'll be straight with you, Rinzler. If you or your Master become a threat here, we may be at odds. I may have to act against you both." He was deadly serious, but calm. "I hope it does not reach this point, but I have been charged with a particular duty here, as you know."
It was what he had expected. Rinzler wasn't upset by it. If anything, the man's commitment to the order he was meant to obtain pleased Rinzler more. He felt a sense of something akin to respect for this User, likely some twisted sense of emotion from his former self.
I would not be angry. I understand the important of order.
He paused for a moment, considering his word choices carefully. Rinzler was well aware that when his master arrived, he would be walking a fine line.
Duty is important. Unless I am ordered otherwise - and I will let you know if that is so - then I will do my duty to you and to the Watch. There are no other positions here that suit my functions so well. It is important to me to fulfill my purpose.
Even if it was a distorted version of his preferences.
It was odd to see a smile on the face of an authority figure besides the Luminary's. Where as a smile never quite softened the features of Master, it seemed to do a world of good to Roy's face. Rinzler filed the comparison away for further analyses later.
There were other questions he had, but he wasn't sure if the man had the time to answer them all.
It might take hours if I start.
His purr softened slightly, sounding rather content. It wasn't quite an attempt at a joke - Rinzler didn't think he was capable, but he thought it might do a good job of helping him get a better feel for this User.

Things just got stranger and stranger around Death City, didn't they?
"Part of me wishes I could actually see what your world was like."
At the end of it all, even before the military thing, Roy was a scientist. Scientists needed to know.

On another note, derezzing did not sound appealing at all.

Still, there was one more thing. Knowing the nature of BREW, it was a very real possibility.
"And if your Master shows up? What will you do?"

Roy let a smile ease his features at that point. He was, at least, pleased that this one could be negotiated with. That he wasn't going to hide.
(He still had people to talk to about that particular issue, as it was.)
"By the way, whenever you have any questions about anything at all, really: don't hesitate to ask."
