Description: Zack’s back, looking for his lady friend and a job. What a coincidence that both are in the same building!
Zack wasn’t sure how he remembered the way, but he found himself pleasantly surprised when his feet knew the path better than his brain did. Maybe it was the SOLDIER in him, the training rearing its slightly-fortunate head: always known Home Base, always return to Home Base, always memorize the roads and conduits to and from for possible derailment and invasion. And this was Home Base, was his HQ, more valuable than his previous one ever could be.
Besides, home was where the heart was, and with Aerith in those halls…
Stopping outside the building, he took his shirt off and held it to his chest for a second; he wasn’t ready to get rid of it completely, not this reminder of what waited with its maw open back home. It was a sobering realism, but another stone on his path; he was who he was because of what he faced, and ignoring one piece of helped nothing. Casting a quick glance around and making sure no one was staring, he stuffed the shirt down his pants, trying to smooth out the lumps and create an illusion of normalcy. What, didn’t everyone run around without a shirt on while patting the front of their blue uniform pants? C’mon.
His fingers ran through his hair, and using a window, tried to make himself somewhat presentable. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. When was the last time he picked up a date and got a job interview in the same building without a shirt? Had to be a good couple of years at least. As he stepped inside, he felt his meager gift in his pocket, something silly and small and not good enough for an "I’m Sorry". But it was a start. It was all a start.
His boots echoed in his head, in the room, and his smile lit his way. Aerith. Shiva, he missed her, and knowing that she was working here, knowing that he was going to see her, hug her, have dinner with her again…that got his heart hammering away like a crew of construction workers.
But first things first: subtly make sure Roy didn’t have any hidden cameras around Aerith’s desk.
