Ed had fallen asleep on a bench in Death City (the bottom of his shirt pushed up just a bit), not too far from the area of the residential district he had been walking around in the day before. He'd been trying to scope out a potential place to stay, since he was pretty well aware at this point how he wasn't going to be staying with everyone else, due to his personal suspicions and opinions. His hood was pulled up over his eyes, even though he was in the shade under the overhang of a building. The air was nice when you weren't in direct sunlight.

The alchemist was never one for sleeping in late, always needing to be up and out doing something in the morning. When he had sensed the sunlight nearby, he had grumbled and turned to curl himself up, facing the back of the bench. Of course, by the time that he had noticed the sunlight and woken up just enough to be semi-conscious, the sirens went off.

Flailing about because of the sudden jolt to his senses, Ed rolled right off of the bench, falling onto the sidewalk. After recovering from his sudden jolt, he stood up and dusted himself off, listening to the voice over the loudspeaker. He couldn't help but grin at the message. Fall out shelter, huh? Looked like it was finally starting... He'd never really gotten a response out of anyone he'd talked to on the specifics, but now looked like a good chance to poke around and figure out stuff for himself.

The only downside was realizing he no longer had his alchemy abilities. He could have easily defended himself with that, but this was different... Weighing his options, he settled for staying outside. With his reluctance to join Shibusen, he was pretty sure they wouldn't let him into the shelter anyway. He was probably viewed as some sort of traitor.

A blast went off, uncomfortably close to Ed's current location, and he put his hands over his ears in an attempt to muffle the sound. Man... This was crazy. He'd had no idea the war was bad enough that they would be attacked this soon.

Heading away from his starting point, he noticed a girl heading past in a getup that was certainly not local. "Hey! You shouldn't be over here!" Ed shouted at her, turning to watch as she ducked into a building. He wasn't sure exactly where that last blast had hit, but it was likely that it was close enough that whatever had caused it could still be around and heading their way.

Ed really hoped it wasn't Kimbley.

Yoko ran out the building after making sure all the people were safely out, instructing them to run to the shelter as fast as they could. As the group left, the sudden blast from close by sent Yoko falling backward and sliding across the cobble-stoned road. She winced and stood up slowly, dusting what she could off and pulling her hair from their chopsticks. She started to look a bit dirty but that didn't matter. Yoko continued to ensure the others were running to the shelter. She saw a blonde haired boy and frowned running to him, not caring how she looked.

"Hey you need to get to the shelter! Something's going on." she shouted over the sirens and sporatic screams.

Ed stared at the girl once she came up to him, slowly taking his hands away from his ears. He was pretty sure they were still ringing, and he tapped his palm against his ear a few times to try and get his hearing to come back faster. It didn't seem likely that it would recover that fast, and he was already too familiar with what it was like being that close to explosions. At least he hadn't been close enough to get hit with debris this time.

"They probably won't let me in even if I manage to get there." Ed waved her towards the school, where the people seemed to be heading. "If you're with them, you should go. I'll make sure everyone around here is out."

Yoko frowned, crossing her arms briefly and staring at him. No welcome in there? He was only a kid! She huffed and shook her head," No way. I'm not going to leave you out here by yourself!" She was about to scold him again when a sudden blast near them sounded and Yoko's golden eyes widened. She quickly didn't think as she grabbed his hand and yanked him to press him to her own body to shield him from anything at may have come from the blast just in case. Yoko held him tightly to her, shaking a little as she looked around. Memories of loosing those she loved before clenched at her heart. Yoko bit her lower lip and finally pulled him away to observe him," Are you ok? You're not hurt anywhere are you?"

"Come on..I'm taking you to the shelter." she replied.

Oh, geez. He just wasn't going to get a break with this, was he? It'd be a long time since anyone had actually treated him like a kid. Even though he wasn't usually as tall as everyone else (about 5'5", now), the people around him at least knew that he was a State Alchemist and didn't feel bad about leaving him behind to take care of himself. Most times. A good deal of the time, he was lucky enough to at least have his brother around to help him.

Ed started to protest when he felt her pull him in. It took quite a few seconds for everything to process -- the nearby explosion, and his... current position. He shifted a bit in her hold, but her shaking didn't go unnoticed. When she let him go, he stared at her for a moment, and then worked up the best smile he could manage. She seemed like she'd been through something pretty tough, the way she was reacting. She wasn't freaking out the same way normal people were, and though she was trying to keep her cool, Ed could see right through it.

"I'm fine. I can take care of myself. I'm in the military." Ed put his right hand on her shoulder, taking a deep breath to try and calm himself down, holding her gaze. "You'd be better in there with everyone else. They'll probably need someone to keep them calm."

Yoko frowned again at his words. A kid his age already in the military? She was very suprised and skeptical. But with his reasurring smile she sighed and glanced away a little. Yoko crossed her arms under her chest and finally gazed at him sternly," If I don't see you in there when I'm there...I'm coming back out for you," She replied.

She felt weird for a moment to be so worked up. But then again with wars past, she knew the results all too well. Yoko placed her hand ontop of his and smiled a bit," I hope you run fast. I'm off to go help others."

"Hey... I told you not to worry about me. I'm not a kid." Ed really hoped that she wasn't as reckless as she seemed. It wasn't safe to be that concerned about others and putting herself in danger like that. Then again, he wasn't really one to be talking, considering all the trouble he tended to get himself into when he had Al around.

Ed squeezed her shoulder lightly, then brought his hand back. "I can run a lot faster than you think, trust me." He patted his left leg. "I'll see you there."

He wasn't sure if he would make it in time, but if he came across a group that still needed to go, or someone that was injured, he'd suck it up and make himself go to the shelter. Even if he didn't stay.
