Yuuri had been working all morning, with Conrad standing quietly against a tree, half-watching, half-surveying the same land over and over. Yuuri was determined to make this work, and Conrad was smart enough to give him the space and time he needed to convince himself he was making progress.

"Are you ready for a break?"

He had been working had with Mifune over the last day, but towards the end of yesterday, the young Maou had managed to successfully transform his arm into a bladed form. Yuuri, of course, barely remembered the entire ordeal, as his counter-part had once again emerged to take control of the situation. Not that it had bothered him at all, but it would have been nice to know exactly what had happened with it being all a big blur.

Yuuri had been trying this morning to get his partial form under control, but he hadn't had much success over it either. It was probably due to the fact that Mifune had already taken care of all the other kishin eggs around, and he couldn't get the right type of motivation to bring himself to transform.

That was why Conrad's words were so welcome when the break was offered. His face instantly brightened, and after dropping his concentration, the young Maou said, "Yeah I am!"

Moving over to join Conrad, Yuuri cheerfully muttered, "I think I was getting closer that time."

"Closer?"

Leo had returned from an unsupervised jog around the camp area just in time to hear the last pieces of their conversation. So far he hadn't seen any kishins from the close, but what little he HAD seen had been enough to convince him that he didn't want to make that experience anyway. Using his shirt as a towel, he wiped the sweat off his face before joining them.

"You really want to fight in that 'war', don't you?"

Conrad eyed the other carefully, choosing his words. He held out an actual towel for Yuuri and kept his tone neutral.

"His Majesty always tries to do what is right and protect those he holds close."

"Mmhm! But it's so hard trying to partially transform a limb. I just can't seem to do it without something else around," Yuuri explained with a sigh. He'd managed it twice with Mifune, but that had only been because the fighter had taken him to fight against a Kishin Egg.

Taking the towel that Conrad offered him, Yuuri didn't hesitate in wiping the sweat from his face as his caretaker spoke. When Conrad was finished, he stepped over to stand beside his friend while he said to Leo, "Of course I do! As Conrad said, I want to help protect the people who live here."

Leo commented their answers with a monosyllabic "Mmh". Putting his make-shift towel down, he glanced to the side, ignoring the bitter taste their words left in his mind. Care about people, huh? Yeah, sure. Returning his attention to them, the Half gave Yuuri a considering once-over.

"You're royalty?"

"Yes," Conrad answered quickly, but not looking at Yuuri. "He is the king of our kingdom."

Yuuri's hand automatically went to the back of his head at the question. It had been over half a year since his arrival here, and he hadn't really had the opportunity to think much about his position back in Shin Makoku.

When Conrad answered, he peered over at his caretaker and smiled. "Aaa yeah, that's right," he murmured before his attention returned back to Leo. "But I'm also just a high school boy as well."

"A king, huh..." Leo didn't look overly convinced. The high school boy seemed a lot more likely than Yuuri being a king. "Guess that means we're quite the collection, huh. And you-", he nodded towards Conrad. "What about you? 'You a mage or something?"

"A magic user?" Conrad smiled. "No, that would be His Majesty's and my brothers' forte."

He didn't blame Leo for not being convinced. It had taken him a long time to actually accept the fact that he was a king when he'd first heard, so he never blamed anyone else for not believing in the beginning.

"Conrad's the best swordsman in all of Shin Makoku!" Yuuri cheerfully piped up with. That was something he was always proud to announce!

"...Shin Makoku?" Leo's face dropped in a 'oh really' way. "Why can't anybody be from a normal place like Tokyo?"

"Ah, Yuuri is from Japan. I have visited it before, it seems like a very nice place."

"Mmmhm! I'm from Saitama prefecture," he added. The memory of Conrad and the others coming to Japan with him had always been a fond one to the young Maou.

Peering at Leo curiously, Yuuri asked, "You're from Tokyo as well?"

Leo nodded at the question. "Shinjuku. I'm in one of the gangs there." ...or 'was', more precisely. His gaze darkened for a moment at the memory of how it all had ended, but he wasn't going to bring that topic up. "...we did street-racing."
