It was nearly time for Lain and Neji to arrive, and the scent of cooking food filled the air.
Lee set his chin over Gaara's shoulder, peering down into the pan. It was considerably less red than Lee would've liked- the scent didn't even make his eyes water. They were cooking for their guests, though, not for Lee. "We should probably leave it like this for Neji," he murmured. "I am not certain if Lain-san likes it hot, either."
He could always add more spice to it at the table. Lots more.
The table in question was already set, and larger than Lee was used to. He'd grown accustomed to the standard pair apartment that he and Gaara had been living in for months now. Moving to somewhere so much bigger just to consolidate rooms still felt strange, and he'd been tip-toeing around the place for the two days they'd actually lived there, feeling as though he'd crash into something pricy at any moment.
Not that Lee was clumsy- or at least, he hadn't been clumsy since he was very young- but still.
Gaara, in contrast, seemed entirely more comfortable with their surroundings. He'd glanced at the place once, nodded, and that had been that.
It was a good thing, though, Lee reminded himself. Even if it was a bit- well, nice- it meant that they had more room. Room enough that he hoped this wouldn't be the only time Neji and Lain came over for dinner. Hopefully it'd feel a little less big with other people in it.
