She had been aware of her presence, of course, long before she had even decided to open the door. They had a connection that went across time and circumstances, after all.

"My dear Chrome."

Mukuro looked up from where he was now on flopped on the couch, watched the door and let a small smile rest on his face.

"Come in."

She stepped inside at his permission, closing the door shut gently behind her and then inclining her head politely, single eye sliding to look around the room, as if she expected something to jump out or surprise her or hurt him or something. But there was nothing and there never was because she knew he could protect himself and the both of them.

Chrome's expression was passive, as always, and she moved closer to the couch (just a little) before nodding her head, speaking up gently. "How are you today, Mukuro-sama?"

It was polite and she knew the answer already -- cryptic good, wonderful, excellent -- and she wouldn't be surprised because he was. There was no problem with that, most definitely.

Mukuro watched the girl look about, openly amused at her caution. Always so careful, so discreet. Hard to believe that such a mousy-looking child could harbor the kind of resolve that had interested him enough to make her a possibility ten years ago. To make her his vessel.

Briefly, he remembered what she was to become, in his future.

"I could be better," he airily replied, "but beggars can't be choosers, can they?"

He put his chin on one hand and continued to smile at her.

"And you?"
