I... this is kind of WIP but. visioneightfold April 26 2011, 03:15:43 UTC
Vriska managed to replace the curl of her lip with a roll of her eyes, matching John's and for a minute syncing them up in a kind of weird cycle. Then the moment passed and everything seemed even grimmer and more antagonising than before.

"Why? What have you been doing that was so much more important?" It was more a demand than a question, but--well. She couldn't exactly help herself.

What had John been doing--what had anyone been doing, besides getting their horns handed to them, their city wrecked, and hauling the mutilated bodies out of the streets? (Vriska had noticed bitterly, inevitably, that none of the perpetrators there seemed to be sharing her punishment.)

What was he doing here? Vriska, realistically or not, had assumed that John--like Kanaya, like Tavros, like everyone and everything else in this godforsaken fucking city--had been turned against her, that he hated her. And why wouldn't he? When she'd stabbed that pathetic human girl friend of his, it had been with vengeance, with relish and spite and anger (and some degree of strategic intent, which had quickly gone to hell)... but she'd been operating under the assumption that it didn't matter any more.

That none of it fucking mattered. So she'd gone for broke.

And now here he was.

She was grasping at straws, but while she was, understandably, just a little bit suspicious... she was also beginning to get kind of desperate.

"A lot of stuff! If you haven't noticed, it was really crazy out there. So crazy." He leaned forward so that his elbows rested atop of his knees, relaxing more into the conversation without really realizing it. "Maybe I should have come trick-or-treating here! Or, uh, maybe not because you wouldn't have had candy anyways, but--"

Then John abruptly cut short in the middle of his somewhat mindless babbling, posture jumping a bit as he realized his purpose here.

"Shit! Wait, I came here to ask you something. Stupid stupid dumb."

Vriska didn't say anything. She might had something to say--had actually opened her mouth to say it, when he started to talk about 'tricker-treating' or whatever--but she closed it again when he cut himself off, and instead inclined her head, just slightly, raising one eyebrow in critical, sardonic silence.

"Oh yeah?" She found herself inexplicably nervous--her expanding and collapsing cardiovascular muscluar system was working rapidly, she could feel her blood pulsing, hammering in her ribcage, but she ignored it, instead shifting into a somewhat more comfortable position on her barren cot.

"Okay. Shoot."

She wasn't anxious. Not at all.

-- and John found that it was still hard for him to get truly angry. To be honest, he didn't think he was. Even in front of the perpetrator of the crime herself. He was confused, and he felt almost betrayed for some reason too... but he almost felt guilty for not being able to be angry, for Kurt's sake. He definitely was when he first heard about it! But a lot of time had passed, and Kurt had healed, and-- well, that didn't make the whole thing okay. But it was definitely harder to get mad at Vriska right now, for whatever reason.

"You hurt Kurt, right?", he asked matter-of-factly, looking her straight in the eye. His voice was just a notch under certain, and he sounded as if he didn't want the fact to be true. "Why?"

If Vriska heard it, she didn't give any sign or indication. "...yeah?" She furrowed her brow, giving John a sideways look. If anything, she seemed a bit blindsided by the question.

Then she sighed.

"Man! ...what kind of question is that? I was mad!" She leaned back, putting her back against the wall and propping herself up by the elbows briefly before straightening up. She felt like her vascular system was going to pop, pouring blue blood into her organs and killing her on the spot. "He pissed me off! So I taught him a lesson." The corner of her mouth twisted up, fleetingly, and revealed her broken fang, but it disappeared again behind black lips--in a rare moment of commonality, human jails didn't provide things like makeup to its captives.

"But!", John protested right as it seemed like she was finished talking, leaning forward in his chair with more attentiveness. "I... don't think that being mad at someone is a good reason to hurt them like that!"

His expression seemed to crease with layers of uncertainty, with an obvious lack of comprehension. "Kurt might be a little bit snooty, but... he's a nice guy. I still don't think I get why you did that!" He pauses, and his hands starting to fiddle with the fabric of his jeans. "And if I am going to be honest, it is pretty scary. Do you do that, to any person who makes you mad?"

I have no idea what I was doing with this tag, just for the record. visioneightfold June 15 2011, 00:10:50 UTC

Some part of Vriska had the sense to be cognisant of his judgement, of the little verdicts he was passing but she was more aware of her indifference and aggravation with his gall. Well, who asked you?

"No. Well, sometimes." She rolled into the deliberation of it without hesitation, almost casually--it was conversational rather than confessional, a consideration rather than a concession. Her next words sounded frustrated, almost exasperated. "It depends!"

Then:

"But he was asking for it."

John's expression was pretty much the epitome of "unsure" throughout her little train of considerations, mostly because he wasn't exactly sure what to think. It still all sounded pretty unreasonable to his human mindset, especially to the extent that Vriska had hurt him!

But then he blinked in pure, genuine confusion at her last statement.

"Wait, he did?"

Why would someone ask to get beaten up?? It was sort of confusing to think about, because why would someone want to get hurt! That sounded a little silly, unless you were some big tough guy who liked getting into fights. Which... Kurt didn't seem like!

... Yes, John may have taken that a bit too literally.

Lawl that last tag, I wish I could edit it to sound less retarded. visioneightfold June 22 2011, 20:38:47 UTC
"No, I just made that up," Vriska snapped, perhaps a little more impatiently than normal. Then: "Why don't you just look at the network?" It was almost a reasonable request.

She folded her arms over her chest, almost defensively--but with Vriska, defensiveness was one and the same with aggressiveness.
